Iowa State in 2008!!! (lame I know...)

Although there seems to be a general consensus about this next years football team and the likelihood that they will struggle to get to .500, I was taking a look at the Cyclones' 2008 conference schedule and am now pretty optimistic about the following year. With Chizik having a year under his belt and the following conference schedule:

    Kansas
    at Baylor
    Nebraska
    Texas A&M
    at Oklahoma State
    at Colorado
    Missouri
    at Kansas State

...and South Dakota State, Kent State, Iowa, and UNLV as our Non-Conference games, I think 2008 could turn out to be an extremely good year for Iowa State Football.

I'm not counting out Iowa State at all for 2007 or trying to look past this upcoming season, but after this transitional year, it seems like 2008 could be very bright for Iowa State.

Re: Iowa State in 2008!!! (lame I know...)

This last year we lost to Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas State. The last time we played Baylor, we lost to them too.

So while we may have a perceived easier schedule, it's not like we did well against the "easy" conference teams.

Our rivals to the east are saying the same types of things about their schedule - not playing OSU and Michigan for the next 2 years. Somehow they forgot Indiana, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Minnesota are still on their schedule for next year. Teams that defeated then this past fall.

I'm aware that the players on the field in '06 and '08 won't be the same guys - just making a point.

We will still be playing UNLV in 2008? Was this a 4 year deal?

I don't think so - just a home-away contract from what I can tell. We're just not traveling there until '08.

Still a better outlook than playing Oklahoma and Texas and other traditionally solid teams from the South. IMO the schedule can't get much better than this for us. I think we'll be solid.

I can't wait for that UNLV game in '08. I know a lot of Cyclone fans who will travel to that one.

I hear what you're saying - yet we failed to capitalize on the Texas & OU void in '04 and '05. Yeah - we made bowl appearances - yet managed to lose our final regular season games to "easier" teams and missed out on Big 12 title game appearances.

Personally, Texas and Oklahoma don't scare me like they used to. I said during the season neither were all that great and both certainly proved to be suspect at times. Overall, this was one of the worst years for the Big 12 as far as quality goes and we managed to go 4-8. Think of the possibilities if we could've played up to what our perceived potential was.

We're in the Big 12 and we play a Big 10 team each year, we're almost always going to have a tough schedule. Hopefully under Chizik we'll embrace it and eventually overcome it!

And I can't wait until we play at UNLV as well. Not only to party in Vegas - but hopefully we can do some of our own stomping on their logo. As we run over their arses score after score. :)

Sure, it looks like we might be able to run thru that schedule, but would the national media give us credit for it? It IS a weak schedule, and that weak a SOS might not get us there
