    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

So, in short, we would need to place in the top 3 in Lincoln in the lower weight classes to send those guys to St. Louis? Top 2 for 141, and so on and so forth?

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

IIRC, the Big 12 got 38 last year. I think we're in a pretty good spot and should do pretty well on qualifiers. I'd love to see us send 10 again, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's only 8-9.

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

I would expect 9 qualifiers. It might be too tough for Burk to get a 3rd place, considering the 3 wrestlers in front of him are all Top 10 wrestlers and he will probably be seeded 5th.

I would love to see Mueller win 149.

Ward should be in good shape at 184. I would not be surprised to see him do very well in Lincoln.

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

If Burk can get one upset and finish 4th he may have a good shot at the wild cards.

    No wildcards, then?

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

    I'm not sure,

but I believe that Bronze Medals or Wildcards will be given out after the Tournaments, by the NCAA instead of giving out at the Conference Tournaments. Meuller could also get a Wildcard, if he does not finish 2nd.

Correct, there are 52 wildcards left to issue after the conference tournaments. The NCAA is the one issuing these through their new so called RPI calculation.

Each weight will have 33 guys for a total of 330 and right now there are 278 automatic qualifiers.

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

    If I understand . . .

The top "N" from the conference tourney get automatic bids where "N" for the different weights is:

    125 - 3
    133 - 3
    141 - 3
    149 - 2
    157 - 4
    165 - 5
    174 - 3
    184 - 4
    197 - 5
    285 - 5

So every wrestler that wrestles at 165, 197, and 285 is already automatically in (obviously 1 per team). Nice. Could be tough for Mueller -- though he should probably get the 2 seed in the tourney.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

    You are correct.

If Mueller finishes 3rd he won't be an automatic qualifier, but with the 5 wildcards for that weight I would think he would get one. If he would somehow manage to get 4th or 5th (which I don't see happening) at the Big 12's then he may be staying home.

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

So will Burk and Ward get the Bronze level so they could be considered for the wildcards?

As far as Mueller goes, there's a reason that there are only two qualifiers. Since he'll be the 2 seed there should be no reason why he doesn't qualify. It may help for him to know that he has to get second to qualify to light a fire under him.

I dont think ward will need it. Unfortunately, the road is tough for burk and he may be the one to get left behind.

    Re: Conference Qualifier Numbers Announced

How does the Big 10 pre-qualify 7 wrestlers at 157 with only 1 (Peota) in the "rankings top 10" and 0 in the "rpi top 10" at that weight? That being said if Burk doesn't get in @'74 and Ballweg does @ '57 something's wrong with the formula!

Because they used the top 28 at all weights instead of the top 10.

I wouldn't get to worked up over it, because Ballweg won't qualify. And if he does he is probably 2 and done at nationals, not scoring any points anyway.
