    Anyone here ever go Noodling?

I was watching a show on PBS the other night about noodling for Catfish in Oklahoma. For those that don't know, it the sport or art of fishing for catfish with your bare hands. Basically people get together and pull out large catfish up to 60-70 lbs or so out of holes in the bottom of a stream or lake. It is legal in several states and yes you must have a license to do so. This show was from the summer of 2000 and quite interesting. I remember hearing stories of people that use to do this in southern Iowa.

or check this one out. it is a definite blast. on the illinois river, if you make a big enough wake the asian carp will just jump and jump and jump, sometimes even into your boat. my uncle caught a few in the face. if you have a bowfishing kit and a boat, you can have alot of fun. im not sure if they do this anywhere else, because the first time i have ever heard of this was from a guy from jefferson earlier in the year.

From what I 've heard it's a hit and miss if you get a fish/turtle/beaver. Most of the guys that I have seen on tv that noodle have about the same amount of teeth that they do fingers, and it never seems like a full set (of fingers).

Stick your hand in a hole and hope there's a fish in there. No thanks!!!

Re: Anyone here ever go Noddling?

In my younger days I lived in Oklahoma and used ot go noodeling on a regular basis. It is a blast. We caught a lot of 15-40 lb fish and our biggest was 62 lbs. It only lasts 2-3 week as the only time you can find fish is when they are spawning or sitting on eggs. Also very dangerous as there can be sankes, beaver or you can get your hand caught.

I've seen that show on PBS numerous times and it gets funnier everytime I see it. The term "redneck" was defined by this documentary.

Re: Anyone here ever go Noddling?

I agree it was fun to watch. PBS has some of the strangest shows at times. Last year they were following a guy on the amateur bowling circuit. It is a good to see regular Americans doing their thing instead of following the worthless existence of Hollywood celebrities like they do on Access Hollywood and other shows.
