15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010

Here is what I think has to take place next year to get this program back on its feet. It is a lot but most of these need to happen for any postseason hope. If this team doesnt make the postseason next year, you really have to think the rebuild starts again in 2010-2011 as much as I hate to say it.

    1. McD has to get over playing upperclassmen and guys that he is confortable with and put the best players and athletes on the court.
    2. Gilstrap needs to be a huge impact player, 16 pts, 8 rbs ave a game.
    3. CB has to stay and have a 22 pts 10 rbs ave a game.
    4. Colvin has to be ready to play out of the gate and have a strong freshman season. 6 pts ave
    5. Pomlee needs to be an impact player and able to crash the boards and cause havic in the middle, 8 rbs a game
    6. Ham needs to keep getting better, get tougher, stronger, and be one of the best centers in the Big 12. 8 pts 8 rbs
    7. Lucca/Christopherson/Eikmeier just need to hit their shots and open up the middle. 10 pts
    8. Garrett/Buck have to hit shots if Colvin is the PG one will have to get mins at SG as well as the back up PG. 6 pts
    9. JVB needs to keep the hustle up, take pressure off CB, and not over think everything. 6pts.
    10. Boozer. Needs to get his shot better and be the best 6th man in the conference. 6 pts
    11. Sorry to say it but the players that will not see the floor need to be ready to be recurited over and keep their options open.
    12. If CB leaves the backup plan player has to be ready to come in, play right away and be a key player.
    13. If Eikmeier and Mann are not going to be able to be good roll players next year they need to Redshirt.
    14. The team has to create turnovers, being last in the nation in the catagory isnt good.
    15. Be physical every night.

Yes those pts add up to 80 points a game, but that is how much a team needs to be able to score on a given night to have a chance in games.

    1. Don't lose Brackins.
    2. Don't lose Brackins.
    3. Talk Brackins into staying.

I think 16 points is too much to ask for from Gilstrap. I was thinking more along the lines of 13 a game. Although, I could see him averaging 16 points a game in conference play, depending on how he progresses.

Then someone else will have to score those 3 pts.

    1. Gilstrap has to be the real deal.
    2. Brackins stays for his junior season.
    3. Colvin finds a way to contribute as a true freshman.
    4. SOMEBODY steps up as a legit Big 12 starting SG.

You realize that you have Brackins, Pomlee and Hamilton all averaging at least 8rpg? If Craig is back, that doesn't seem likely.

Re: 15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010

If you think there's even a 1% chance that we will average 80 ppg next year, after averaging 64 ppg this year, there's something wrong between your ears.

And if Craig comes back, I doubt Pomlee is in for more than 10 minutes a game.

You may want to re-do this predictions or you might end up being severely disappointed a year from now.

    1. Brackins returning
    2. No surprise departures from key contributors
    3. No serious injuries
    4. No academic issues from key players (we should be ok in this department)

Re: 15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010

Im starting to think that Craig, DG, JVB could be legit starters in this league.

Boozer and Ham have pretty good futures too.

Who knows on the rest. Id love for them all to be stars but I dunno.

Thats not much 'big 12 conference starting talent' to do anything. To me that means we need about 4-5 more big 12 caliber guys on this team.

Re: 15 Keys for the program to move foward in 2009-2010

This year in the Big 12, there are only 5 guys who average over 8 rebounds a game. Yet you think we will or need to have 5 next year?

Also, only 3 teams average over 80 points a game. I would love if we could average 72 points a game. 80 will never happen w/ Greg's offense
