I wonder if this kid realizes how much pressure rests on his shoulders once he arrives here.

I would think he does. He has a one yr shot to make a career of bball, and a kid to take care of. He's got a lot to prove - even if ISU was a lot more impressive. I expect this guy to have the most drive and energy on the floor next yr.

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

Can't build a team around JC players? Do you remember Tinsley? Probably not b/c your post is too dumb to be from someone old enough to remember that long ago.

Kansas doesn't have to recruit JC players because they get top recruits every year. We do because we hope for the diamond in the rough to allow us to compete with schools that have more tradition, talent and money.

Bad example. Kansas signed two JUCO players last year alone. One of which starts for their team

Re: Gilstrap Drops 33 in 98-95 Loss to Chipola

I have no problem with him being a 1 year player. If Brackins comes back and Gilstrap is for real, we could sneak in the NCAA tourney and suddenly McDermott looks like a genius for bringing him in as a quick fix.

I fully support bringing in the occasional JUCO player. For some reason people assumed McD wouldn't go that route, but there's no reason not to. They're hit and miss, just like high school kids. Mike Taylor was a helluva JUCO talent, just had some personal issues.

Gilstrap is going to be a star. i would rather have gilstrap for 2 years than HB for one in 2010 honestly. he is going to be one the best SF's in the nation. unbelieveable talent

I hate to nitpick, but the two JuCo players KU has have only combined for 3 starts out of KU's 27 games.

The point stands, though. JuCo's can be important pieces. I think typically they shouldn't be counted on to be "the guy" right away. However, if Brackins leaves, Gilstrap might just have to shoulder that load.

I've still seen 0 minutes and 0 seconds of video on Gilstrap, which means I assume that 99% of CF is in the same position as me. Yet he continually seems to be hailed as the key to next year's team. I know it wouldn't be the first time there has been unreasonable expectations on a player, but I'm not sure he's going to come in here and be a guy that comes in here and immediately makes us into a consistent winner.

he has a ESPN rating of 96.... HB has a 98 just to put things in perspective. Gilstrap will be the second best player on the team if CB returns. next year we will be pretty good if Craig is back

I've seen several of Gilstraps games this year and he is a great player at the JUCO level (missed last nights game). He will need to really step up his game to compete in the Big 12. He has a good touch from outside and is great at creating off the dribble. His weakest point will be his size, At 6-7 around 210, he will be challenged to play the 4 spot at the D1 level. Also, in the games I attended, I didnt see anything that showed me that he was a vocal floor leader. He is pretty quiet and a good team player. He will contribute next year but its realy hard to predict to what level. He has the potential to be a 15-20 point, all Big 12 guy or he could end up a roll player. I will say this, I'll take him over Brad Reese. Brad is good but Gilstrap is better.

Thanks for taking the time to watch his games! That kind of first-hand account is interesting.

If Brackins is back, he only has to be a double-figure scorer to help things turn around right away. If Brackins isn't here, well, the whole story might be different, and we may need a whole lot more from him.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
