    Gambling strategies

So I failed on all wagers placed on tonight's game. CyBookie has been a very effective tool to show me why I do not gamble with "real" money.
I'm curious as to what people's strategies are when the place a wager. I know there are many who like to throw it all on the line on a regular basis. These people generally don't have very many credits.
There are many (myself included) who place many small wagers on a lot of different things, and usually end up breaking about even.
And then there are those who have obscene amounts of credits. I understand that there must be some luck involved in hoarding so much, but there must be some strategy/skill involved as well.
So I'm curious, how do people win the big Credits on here?

Luck, all luck. But I mean 2 really make any money consistently and long term betting on sports you really have 2 know trends and know teams Better than they know themselves, you have 2 dedicate your life and time 2 studying all measurable statistics that could affect certain outcomes and I could be wrong but I highly doubt anyone on here does do that. But like I said could be wrong. Cybookie and said credits are serious business. - 1800-Bets Off

It used to be that you could just look at who everyone else on here was betting on, and picking the opposite, but it seems that lately that hasn't been the case as much.

I usually stay away from obscene lines like the ISU-KU game tonight, but for some reason I took KU to cover. I did however put 1/2 a mil on OSU to beat Tech, who was only a 1.5 point dog. That seemed like easy money, and right now OSU leads by 15 just before half.

I've considered wagering large sums on the money lines of heavily favored teams. Seems to make some sense. But I just know that I would get really ****** when the big upset happens, and typically I like rooting for the underdog!

It seems I usually get burned going big on the "no brainers"
Thats why they say, "slow and steady keeps you about where you started."
I don't know anyone that says that, I just made it up.

    Re: Gambling strategies

I don't bet on anything but football on an everyday basis and this is what I do with real money also. I figure football is the only sport I follow religiously and have an idea on what and who to wager on. I don't follow basketball, baseball or hockey that much so I won't really bet on those sports.

So, with me having to wait for quite some time, I might bet on some UFC, March Madness, World Series and the Stanley Cup but not on the everyday games that occur.

I also lucked out and bet on Kenseth in the Daytona 500 which was high odds!

    Re: Gambling strategies

You can't really develop a gambling stategy or gamble to win unless there is real money on the line. Gotta have an incentive not to lose.

IMO, Gambling on sports should be kept in the "for fun" category, unless your just a degenerate gambler or you really, really know the game you are betting on. Too much chance involved. If you really know a team, you can do well betting on them... I did great betting against ISU FB in 03-04 and really well betting on them the next year when we turned it around and won the Independence Bowl.

If you want to really gamble effectively for money you need to learn a skill game like poker and get good at it, to the point you can beat always beat the random variance involved in the game over time.

What I've found works best for my mental health is to ALWAYS bet against the Cyclones. If they lose, I win the bet. If they win. I'm more than happy to lose the bet. It's like buying victories.

This way I win either way.
