    Re: Doug McDermott

So I guess the obvious question is will he come here? If he does indeed grow into a post player we could use all the big bodies we can get. And I would assume that he would come in as a walkon, so that'll basically be a free player.

Why do you think he gets free or reduced tuition?

I think he's figuring something related to his father being a university employee.

I don't know how that works at ISU, so I couldn't say.

I don't know if ISU gives reduced tuition to children of employees. Even if they do, I'm not sure if McDermott is technically an employee of ISU. I thought the athletic dept would be far enough removed to exclude him from this clause if it does indeed exist.

I beleive he is referencing the children of ISU staff getting reduced or free tuition. I don't know the specifics, but I know many universities have some sort of setup.

I don't know how true that would be...otherwise you would think Kansas would have tried this when Chalmers dad was hired on the staff

A lot of schools offer free education for their employee's children, but I don't think the state schools in Iowa do.

IIRC, schools give discounted rates to children of parents whom are employed by the school.

    Re: Doug McDermott

so no one has specifics... so lets throw it out there.... ... this must be a recruiting thread.

I am nearly certain ISU does NOT have such a policy...nor does any State of Iowa University.

The parent likely would have had to be an employee for a certain period of time, just like other benefits, to prevent schools from hiring parents to save scholliies.
