Our schedules over the next few years are tough! We have a home-home with Utah! Why? I know it is nice to bring in top programs...but in our situation I would think we need to schedule games that are likely to be wins! Although in the past couple of season would not be an easy task itself!

I think that game has been on our schedule for a couple of years. And if we are scheduling a few years out thinking "we shouldn't schedule them, we're not going to be very good" then we've got more problems than just Utah coming to town.

No bye week next year, I can't decide if that's a bad thing or not.

Are we complaining because we might be 2-10 instead of 3-9. It still doesnt get us anywhere. Atleast we are playing Utah. Which should get us on a good tv channel instead of CBS college sports home of the Iowa State Hawkeyes.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Herman's offense does this fall.

I agree with your point. And I do like the idea of strong opponents coming to Ames. But realistically we are a program that needs to get to 6 wins and then we can build upon that. In two years are we more than a 6 win program? A lot of that depends on the schedule as much as it does with our development.

I have to admit that I think that we'll be a six win program this fall.

And as far as Utah, with Arnaud and Company seniors, can you imagine the impact on the program if we should beat them in Ames? Not just the publicity and recruiting benefits, but how it affects the fanbase as well.

I agree with you. But what if we are 5-7 instead of 6-6? There are a few bad teams that don't have any "good" wins that go to bowl games. I think I wouldn't being one of those 6-6 teams with no "good" wins and sliding into a bowl game. 10 years of being 6-6...no way. But I would be thrilled to be bowl eligible next year or the year after.

Very true! Actually having them come here first is a benefit due to the experience our roster will have. Good point.

Re: ESPN/Griffin look at our 2009 schedule

Aside from playing Iowa, I'm sick of playing dogs for non-conference. The year we played Florida State was exciting, and even if we aren't expected to do anything, playing a team like Utah will definitely generate some buzz. You bring some bigger names in for home and home series, and you sell more season tickets.

I don't understand the love for Kansas State. 4-4 in conference? They were terrible last year, and their only player of note (Freeman) will be gone.

I think Griffin has a man-crush on Bill Snyder.

I can not disagree with you. But we might have had a different feeling about that game had we lost 42-3 or something similar. I love seeing good teams come to Ames. I just want to continue developing the program and if playing top 25 teams in the non-conference season for some reason keeps at at 5-7...people will not be happy!

Re: ESPN/Griffin look at our 2009 schedule

It is dumb for us to schedule Utah. There isn't an argument to be made that will make me think any different.

TT, KSU, etc. Programs that scheduled nancies when their program was in the tank. They won some games, started going to minor bowl games, started getting better recruits, and became top 25 programs. That is what we need to do
