    Sox Fans: Joe Crede Opinions

Just wondering what the opinion of Joe Crede is from Sox fans. I know all about the injury history the last couple years and have watched him play several times and looked at his stats. Just more curious about minutia that you get from watching a player on a regular basis (approach at the plate, defense, mental makeup, ect.).

He's definitely not afraid to come up with the big hit, and he has more than adequate power.

He'll have a pretty poor on base percentage. He has a knack to pop a lot of pitches up. Pretty long swing, but he really shortens it up with two strikes. He's not an easy person to strike out.

Will make some fantastic plays defensively, but he made a lot of uncharacteristic errors last year. Not sure if that was related to his back injury or not.

And I don't expect him to stay healthy. When you have back problems for years and have more than one operation on it, that doesn't bode well.

As a lifelong White Sox fan...I would say the above assessment is dead on! I would not be afraid to give Joe a shot...but I would not commit to a lot of money. Incentive-laden contract for sure. Not because he plays harder for personal gains...but because his back injury really has taken him out of the game for almost two years.

    Exactly what they said.

For the last five or so years, there's no other guy I want up at the plate in the clutch.

When he's healthy, he's a very good third baseman.

    Pretty good clubhouse guy, too.

Re: Sox Fans: Joe Crede Opinions

wow. four posts and everything I would have said has already been covered.

Joe has been one of my favorite players for a long long time. To go along with what mwitt said - you really won't find many better fielding 3rd basemen. For the past 4 or 5 years, two things have been keeping him from a gold glove (IMO). 1. Health (obviously.) 2. Batting average. Although we all know it shouldn't be that way, we realize that no matter how good a fielder a 3rd baseman is, he just can't win a gg while hitting .270. Just very hard to do. Except for last year, as pointed out. He racked up a crap ton of errors before the allstar break, which is very very uncharacteristic.

I also agree with crosscyed - there are times when you need a long single or a double in the middle of the 8th to take the lead and get to Jenks...and he comes up to the plate and you just know Joe's gonna get it done. And he does.

I think everything said here is pretty spot on. Especially about the injury. It's just gonna be hit and miss. And he's not the fastest runner either. And by that, I mean he's actually pretty slow.
And he will foul off 4 or 5 balls straight when he's way down in the count - whether he ends up getting a hit, popping up, or striking out, he'll still make a pitcher work for it. No easy strikeouts.

Yeah, he pops it up a bunch. And he's REAL slow.

But if he can give someone a full, healthy season, he can go deep 30 times and knock in 80.

Which means...as we White Sox fans know...that made him one of the fastest players on our roster! LOL
