    Next year's lineup

With three starters graduating and two more getting significant playing time, what do you think the lineup will look like next year?

Bolte and Lacy are probably the givens.

Ezell's spot: Will Williams be ready to step in or will Stuckey's D and ball handling ability win out even though she can't hit the broad side of a barn?

Nisliet's spot: Will Ashley Arlen step right into this spot? Can or Chelsea Poppens or Amanda Zimmerman push her for this spot?

Weiben's spot: Anna Prins seems like the logical choice with Zimmerman/Poppens getting plenty of minutes.

    My guess:

    1. Williams - Stuckey gets plenty of time in her role, but Williams can hit the outside shot.

    2. Lacey - Although she will bascially be a 1a like she has been for two years.

    3. Bolte - All Big 12 before she graduates.

    4. Arlen - Hers to start the season at least

    5. Prins - ISU's highest rated recruit in a while. Will still stretch the D as she can come out high like Wieben does, but be an even more legit threat to hit the three.

We will be young inside next year, regardless of how you mash it up.

I can't disagree on your probables.

Haven't given much thought either, but looks like a probable starting point.

I agree with pretty much everything you state in your post. Some of my thoughts:

Unless she suddenly learns how to shoot, Stuckey won't start, but she'll still get at least 15-18 minutes per game.

Williams and Yackley will get a whole lot of playing time early in the season, and whoever plays better will be the starting PG come conference time.

The only question regarding Lacey is whether she'll be starting at PG or 2G (my guess: 2G). Bolte is the starting 3 no question.

Unless she comes in and completely flops, Prins will be the starting 5. Arlen will likely be the starting 4. Zimmerman and Poppens will both get plenty of opportunities to play. If a few of the freshman really disappoint, we have Lightbourne as an insurance policy.

Will we be as good next year? I certainly hope so, otherwise we won't have anything going for us.

    Re: Next year's lineup

Until her injury, I kept hoping for Genesis to emerge as a solid contributer off the bench, especially with our youth next season.

I like the hustle that Arlen has shown at times this season and should be a solid player during her career.

Losing the production we will be losing (5 post players and Ezell!) we will almost certainly not be as good next year.

Hopefully we will make the tourney, but I'm not expecting a top 20 ranking.

Right. Expect some serious growing pains in the non-conference as we figure out what works for us. We host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament next year, so we better make it.

I'd be a whole lot more pessimistic about next season if Arlen hadn't turned out as good as she has. We know we can count on her to be at worst a decent 4 next season.

There were just way too many post players in the rotation this season for Lightbourne to play, injury or not. She could definitely see some time next season, though.

    Re: Next year's lineup

There are some real questions next year, depending on freshman performance. However, both Zimmerman and Prins appear to both be college ready. Zimmerman is strong, and Prins is athletic and moves her feet well. The depth is a real question, but if I was a guessing man, Prins starts, and its a coin flip between Arlen,Bolte and Zimmerman at the 4. Depends on who BF wants as back-up for Prins at the 5. I see Bolte playing some 4 with her size, her shooting and dribble penetration would be great to draw other posts out on the perimeter with. From what I have heard, Williams is a great player who just needs a little time to adjust to high pressure college ball and appears to have the green light on the floor, and I thought she played well at Oklahoma and has been seeing more and more minutes. Yackley and Rockall will probably see rotation as well.

I largely agree with this. I think Rockall will see some significant time (Fennelly's played her more than Flo this year), and Lightbourne will likely see 5-8 mpg off the bench. I don't see Stuckey starting, but she'll continue to get a lot of playing time. Unless Zimmerman really burns things up in the preseason, Arlen is our starting PF.

I don't really know what we're getting with Poppens and Schroll. I've never seen either play or heard much about what types of players they are. I guess we'll find out. :)
