Thumbs down Auburn recruiting on ISUs dime?

I found the hiring of Scott Fountain by Auburn to be odd. Was this Chiziks plan from the beginning?

With Fountain on ISUs staff he could be one of the 7 coaches recruiting. All paid for by ISU. But since he was friends with Chizik could he have been doing some Auburn recruiting on the side? Maybe meeting some extra folks or mentioning Auburn as another possibility? He would be an extra help to the Chiz to get more recruits. 8 coaches recruiting instead of 7.

I know nothing of Fountains character but the timing makes me feel something was shady.

If this is true, this is another example of how gene chizik has screwed us over.

Doubt it. Fountain was a high character guy while here. Also, as much as we want to hate Gene Chizik he was as well.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

I don't understand this at all. The man stayed on ISU's staff until the recruiting process was finished. Why recruit for Auburn while working for ISU's staff when you could just work for Auburn? Seems like that would be a lot easier.

I doubt Auburn needed his help recruiting. They've got plenty of outstanding coaches on staff before Fountain arrived. I would hope Fountain had more integrity than that, anyway.

But the timing? Wait until AFTER national signing day to hire your friend that is known as a really good recruiter? If he really wanted him why not hire him sooner and have him recruit for you?

So what are you trying to say? If anything, it makes Chizik look better--not Fountain look worse.

Because he would be an extra recruiter for Auburn and travel at ISUs expense.

So are there any Auburn recruits who we were trying to get who Fountain would have talked to? This just sounds like a pretty farfetched conspiracy theory to me.

I know nothing. The timing just gave me a feeling that something wasn't right. This is the conclusion that I jumped to. Just wondering what others think.

Re: Auburn recruiting on ISUs dime?

I think it was actually a mutual respect thing. Fountain helped close out our class before moving to Auburn. I seriously doubt that he was recruiting for Auburn while still on ISU's dime. That doesn't seem like this "thing"...

Post proof of your allegation, or give it up already. Do we really need another character-slandering thead here?

That is what I needed to know. It still doesn't "feel" right to me though.
