    Breast Cancer Uniform Question

This is a serious question and I think the help shown by university athletics towards breast cancer is a remarkably great thing. I in no way want to step on anyone's feet here, I have many friends that are survivors of breast cancer, so this is something I take seriously.

That being said.... Rather than wasting money on pink uniforms that I see so often why don't the universities just donate that amount of money. Does it really matter that the teams wear pink uniforms? Uniforms are not cheap and new ones are made nearly every year for practically every womans team.

I understand that they are probably donated, but a money donation would surely go farther than a uniform donation.

Are these uniforms auctioned off later? This to me, seems to be the only reason it's done.

Again, I intend no harm it's just something that I've wondered about for a while.

    Re: Breast Cancer Uniform Question

I think the main objective is to spread awareness. The fact that this thread has started means they have done thier job with the pink uniforms. That being said, I wouldn't doubt if Nike gave them to us for free...

That makes sense... I guess I never thought about just the whole exposure thing, I'm an idiot.

    Re: Breast Cancer Uniform Question

The Drake women played a game in pink uniforms yesterday, and auctioned those uniforms off for charity. I'm sure a lot of programs auction off their pink uniforms after these games. I have no idea who pays for those uniforms in the first place.

They are also auctioned off. I wonder how much I'll have to put down to get annas or shellies?

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Breast Cancer Uniform Question

This happens at all levels of basketball. We have numerous teams at Division III that do it as well. Most companies have very good deals for the uniforms, as well as donating most of the money that they charge for them back to the charity.

You will have to wait a year, grasshopper. Only the seniors are being auctioned off. Heather, T, and Amanda are having their uniforms up for bid until 2/27.

Nikki will be in may, and Joc will be in August.

    Full details in rworkman's post.

And yet they sell these in their official store.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

    Re: Breast Cancer Uniform Question

Probably costs Nike a few bucks to make so after they are auctioned off I'm sure they can very easily go for 50-100 times the production cost. Not bad at all.
