    Baylor

How is Baylor 3-7 in conference? I can't believe how many losses they have picked up this year. I know some of the games have been close, but it has to be a disappointing year for them.

But if that's the case, then we can't complain that he resuscitated Baylor from the throes of the murder scandal into a top program faster than our coach has been doing.

    Must be something else.

I think it has something to do with not being able to find frontline players to pair with Rogers--which he may be bringing in, but too late for this season.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

    Re: Baylor

I would compare Baylor to our team during Blaylock and Stinson's last year. All the talent in the world, but just couldn't pick up the W's.

Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Texas all have way too much talent on the court to be playing as poorly as they are.

    Re: Baylor

first off, everyone seems to think we are some super-talented team.

We are talented, but not to the degree everyone seems to think when this topic comes up. I love our guards, but they are small 5'10, 6', 6', 6'4". This poses a huge problem against teams with tall, long guard (mizzou, ku, ou off the top of my head and as stated, we don't have much of a presence down low. On top of that, same as last year, we have no viable wing players. Two players which I hoped would be able to fill that spot were Fred Ellis, a 6'6" redshirt freshman who has played sparingly, and Anthony Jones, a 6'10" frosh who hasn't got much time. probably 80% of the time we run a 3 guard set with 6'4" lacedarius dunn at the "3" he gets killed giving up offensive boards. Anyways, we had these same hole last year, so what gives?

Basically, last year, we over achieved a bit. I had NIT expectations as did a majority of the rational fan base. This year, we're not too far behind where we should be, but it feels a whole lot worse due to inflated expectations.

Drew is not the best gameday coach. I'm going to do my best to not try and act like I could do any better, but I certainly have some things which I think have lead to several losses in conference. First, our bench minutes have gone way down. We are deeper and needed to develop those wing players I mentioned earlier, but we refused to play them through the year. As a result, we can't finish games, we just get tired. To add to this, watch any game that we have a lead in under 5' in the 2nd half. We stop running an offense, hold the ball till 10 seconds left on the shot clock, run a post 30 feet out to set a ball screen and put up a crappy shot (with our best rebounder 30' away) Because of this, we get far away from our strength of playing fast and out athleting the opponent, and allow them to basically rest on defense. Every game this year we give up a huge amount of point in the last 10 minutes of games (i.e. 35 points in that span to tech after the point we were up ~15). To add insult, for some reason Drew tries to counter this by going to a 4 guard lineup late in games. Which means we give up more points and more rebounds and are have to be 50%+ from three-point range just to stay even, which hasn't happened much this year. In our recent 6 game losing streak. Putting all that together, ignoring the OU games (cause they are good and deserved to win), we've given up 51 -tex, 49 - ku, 45- mu, and 42 - tech[35 in the last 10 min] points in the second half) There's other little things, but those are the big ones. All these were close games that got away late, IMO due in large part to the above mentioned.

Further explaining some of our losses - Jerrells is still our best player but went through the worst slump of his career over the MU and KU games, both winnable. he went 2-20 in those game, and had 9 turnovers vs MU. He plays a normal game in either and we win or it's really really close.

Anyways, there's other things I could ***** about, but I'll spare ya'll for now.

The tail end of our schedule is definitely easier than the front. Sitting at 4-7, barring winning out (which I could still see as a possibility) it will be a bit of a disappointing season. Going 4-1 is more realistic and might still be enough to make the NCAA tourney. The way the season has gone, I won't be vastly disappointed with an 8-8 year. I had around 10-6 expectations.

    @ OKST
    @ ISU
    COL
    @ TEX
    NEB

Okie State is going to be the make or break game. They might be better than UT, but Texas just has our number until we can finally break through and beat them

and next year should be interesting as we will quickly transform into a frontcourt dominated team (assuming John Wall does not come, changes things a bit if he does).

    6'7" wing frosh Givon Crump
6'10" PF overall#33 recruit Cory Jefferson
6'10" Epke Udoh (redshirting this year, transfer from Mich after leading big10 in shot blocking)
Anthony Jones, Quincy Acy, Josh Lomers return.

6'8" PF #15 overall recruit Latavious Williams is expected to be a Bear if he qualifies, or at least that what I hear.

    Re: Baylor

Baylor is frustrating to watch. Tons of talent, with a lot of out of control play.

They desperately need a post player, which it looks like they will have a lot of great ones.

I actually think Acy will be pretty solid.

    Re: Baylor

Baylor needs more than one post player, they need several. Diene is painful to watch, makes me appreciate Thompson and JVB that much more. And makes me realize what a great find Hamilton was.

I haven't seen enough Baylor games to comment on Drew's coaching ability, but i think it's pretty obvious that you can't win in the B12 with no real talent on the front line. Too many great low court and post players: Damion James, Blake Griffin, Craig Brackins, Cole Aldrich, DeMarre Carroll - every player in that list is likely an NBA player.

The formula for beating Baylor seems simple, especially for more athletic teams. 1. Press hard on the perimeter to stop the 3-point game. 2. Crash the offensive boards with four players and get easy points. 3. Feed the <insert big man here> down low. 4. Don't turn the ball over. Essentially, rely on the fact that you'll take 15 more shots a game.

Not that the formula for beating ISU is less simple...
