Hope everybody made it home safe!

I just got home - 2 hours from 86th street to just off Delaware in Ankeny. Yowza.

It took me 2 hours to get from Colfax to Ames today. Right after I left Des Moines, I heard about the 20ish cars in a wreck at the East Mixmaster. Then the accidents seemed to be at places just after I got through the area.

Omaha got it worse. We easily got 10 inches. I drove about 10 miles on I-80 through Omaha during probably the worst part of the storm. Funny thing was seeing all the cars turned the opposite way (facing traffic) in the fast lane. Idiots don't know to SLOW DOWN when there is a winter storm. I have never, ever had a winter weather-related accident in my life, because I am quite willing to drive 12 mph on the interstate if I have to.

I personally saw two vehicles go in the ditch on my way home. This was the worst driving conditions I've seen in awhile.

I went from Ankeny to Indianola in a little over an hour (from 2 to 3 pm). The first evidence of snow plows was at the Indianola city limits.

I think we (Altoona) only got 3-4 inches, but it sure as heck was a mess. Driving back from downtown Des Moines at about 3pm was an adventure.

It took me about an hour at 4:30 to get from the capital area to Ankeny. None of the roads looked like they had seen a plow. That's the worst kind of driving conditions.....when you can't see the lanes in the interstate and there's enough snow that you almost get hung up on it. Yuck.

I think we have at least 5 inches in Ankeny. Apparently the weather guys shouldn't have backed off their earlier predictions.

10 inches??? Not quite. On the 5pm news, they were saying mostly 6 inches around most of the metro area, some places near here were 7 or 8.

My wife left her work on Fleur by AIB at 4:15 p.m., and didn't get to Ankeny until 6 p.m. I guess Fleur was a parking lot.

Hope is not a method. Soon is not a time.
