    Athletic Department Budgets

I stumbled upon this interesting site that shows the AD Budgets for most of the schools in D-I. It's interesting to compare the revenue of each sport for specific schools, and see the sheer amount of money that athletics bring into the school.

The Indy Star database information is quite dated.

    Re: Athletic Department Budgets

    Total Revenue from teams
    EIU- $50,087,943
    ISU- $27,601,653
    Diff- $22,486,290

    Total Revenue from football
    EIU- $37,998,729
    ISU- $17,404,826
    Diff- $20,593,903

And why is it so important that we improve football facilities and have a good team?

Very true, but a portion of this differential has to do with differences in the way the Big Ten and Big Twelve share revenues. Just a minor nit pick.

Unfortunately, it's not a minor issue at all. It's a big issue. We'd be getting WAY more money every year if the Big 12 was using the model the Big Ten does.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Another category that makes a big difference is this one:

    Not Allocated by Gender/Sport
    Iowa: $31,060,367
    ISU: $11,040,360

I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming donations fall in this category???

I believe that is actually were the revenue sharing comes in, and that is why I didn't include it. My post should just be ticket sales.

These numbers are a few years old. Iowa State's Athletic Budget (according to Jamie Pollard in his slam Chizik press conference) is roughly $42 million as of Dec 2008. I have no clue in regards to Iowa's.

Iowa State has to have one of the only women's basketball programs in the country that's in the black.

The budget reported was the budget for the last fiscal year. They don't have the info for this fiscal year because it is not over yet. The reason for the increase from last year to this year is because the AD took over management of Hilton which increased budget.

ISU WBB program is not in the black. I thought this too, but supposedly there is only one WBB program in the nation that is in the black (Connecticut).

    No it loses money.
