Damilyn Tanner told to "Look for a different school" by staff

Damilyn Tanner, a 4 star standout corner back was told just recently by ISU coach Jay Rodgers, no not our Secondary Coach Raney, our wide recievers coach Rodgers, to "start looking for another school." Damilyn was shocked after being highly pursued by McCarney and staff that the new staff shuts him down. Damilyn truely wanted to be a cyclone but will not be dressing up in Cardinal & Gold under Chizik. How often do we turn down a 4 star CB?

There are reasons for everything...I wouldn't make a big deal out of this. I'm sure if we knew the WHOLE story it would make perfect sense.

Its probably because Chizik doesn't want great players.

No, this is word from the horses mouth, Damilyn told me yesterday that Coach Rodgers contacted him and told him to find a different school. I am sure it will be premium information by the beginning of the week.

Seems outrageous at face value. There must be more to the story.

I will try to get details but basically all that Damilyn was told was to "Look for a different school."

Again...I wouldn't worry about this. Let GC and staff put together the team they want. Onward and Upward.

Re: Damilyn Tanner told to "Look for a different school" by staff

    Is character an issue?

I think Mac may have been reaching a bit since he was going after something like 20 JUCO's. I think Chris Williams said on KXnO once that they were JUCO's that others were not even trying to recruit so they probably were not Div 1 talent.

Chizik is not under any pressure right now and should not be for 4 years. He can go for exactly what he is looking for, not a quick fix.

Re: Damilyn Tanner told to "Look for a different school" by staff

It is most likely a character issue or an issue of a guy not fitting what we want for the system, JUCO's are generally rated more generously than high school players, we have gotten a lot of four star JUCOS who have sucked or have been unimpressive, don't get you panties in a bunch over it, if this was a kid from high school I would be a little worried, but we will survive

The kid is high risk for grade's and possibly wouldn't qualify. That is why the coaches get paid the big bucks...if they fit they fit. I don't think we will see this coaching staff take 15 db's in a class....ever! Be patient...the chips are about ready to fall.

i have always heard he was a 3 star actually and that the first staff wasnt all that high on tanner either, he seemed to say he was committed to isu without isu knowing about it.

Re: Damilyn Tanner told to "Look for a different school" by staff

My guess would be grades. An athlete who doesn't qualify out of high school must graduate from junior college before enrolling at a 4 year school. If the present staff doesn't think he is on pace to do that, then there is no reason to pursue. I know there were a number of JUCO players during the Mac years who never enrolled.

Re: Damilyn Tanner told to "Look for a different school" by staff

What this tells me is the Chizik and staff aren't desperate to simply get signees. The are looking for quality that fits, and don't feel the need to get sheer numbers to make themselves look good. I feel like this is a great sign of what is to come. He has done the same thing with current players. If they weren't on board with his program, they were free to move on. He's building a program, not here for a quick fix.
