    Conference strength

Where would fans rank the Big 12 in conference strength this year? I would put the the Big 12 2nd in FB, 4th in MBB and 2 in WBB and 1 in mens track.

They have UConn and ??? Definitely the top team but not nearly the depth. Just looking at the ESPN poll they only have 2 top 20 teams.

    Re: Conference strength

I'd put Big 12 Women's bball in first. Half of the teams in the conference are in the top 25. No other conference in the nation is that deep.

    Re: Conference strength

    - 2nd in football behind the SEC

    - 4th in basketball behind the Big East, ACC, and Pac 10 this year. This, however, is in a down year for the top two programs in the conference. Last year, the Big 12 was probably #1. The two years before that, though, it might have been as low as #6, a.k.a. the worst BCS conference. Because of scholarships limits and the fact that players can leave for the NBA at any time, unlike college football where they have to wait 3 years after graduating HS, conference strength can change a lot faster in basketball than in football.

    - I'd rather gouge my eyes out than follow women's basketball.

Speaking of track, ISU hosts it's biggest meet of the year starting today and running through Saturday. I think today the main thing going will be the heptathalon/pentathlon.
There are always a lot of high calibur teams here for this meet.

Apparently you're one of the relatively few people left in America that is still xenophobic enough to actually believe that.

The Big 10 has 5 teams that are likely making the NCAA tournament (Michigan St, Illinois, Ohio St, Purdue, Minnesota), 2 more that have a decent shot at getting in with some work (Penn St and Wisconsin), and another with an outside shot of getting in (Michigan).

The Big XII has 3 teams that are likely making the NCAA tournament (Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri), 2 teams that could end up there with a lot of work (Kansas St, Nebraska), a team that needs to step it back up if they want to make it in there (Texas), and two more teams that as it stands right now are on the outside looking in (Texas A&M, Oklahoma St).

If you are basing your opinion that the Big XII > Big 10 simply because Oklahoma has a better chance at running the tourney table than Michigan St, that is one of the most ridiculous arguments I have ever heard. Top to bottom, this year, Big 10 >>> Big XII in basketball, and it's not even close.

You have the Big East that could get 9 teams into the tourney, the ACC that could get 8. The big 12 is looking at 6 at the least and 8 at the most.

    Re: Conference strength

Big 10 is stronger than Big 12 in MBB just as the Big 12 was stronger than the Big 10 in football.

    MBB RPI:
    Big 10 - 2
    Big 12 - 4

    MBB Sagarin:
    Big 10 - 2
    Big 12 - 5
