Pollard might have a tough decision......

coming in a few months. If I'm correct, GM's contract will only have 3 yrs left on it next month. This is the time in a coaches career that they typically want an extension or a new contract because they want to assure recruits that their going to be around for the next four years. Pollard probably has to extend him but it kinda goes against the standard he has set with so far with ISU coaches. GM being his hire probably saves him but this could be interesting to watch play out.

    What's everybody's thoughts on this?

I think you need to stop worrying about things you don't control. Posting something on here will have ZERO effect on what happens.

Re: Pollard might have a tough decision......

I feel any decision will come down to analyzing dollars and trends. That is the job JP has and is what is often the bottom line.

If ticket sales continue to decrease. and actual attendance continues its drop (it sure looks lower for many games this season), then it will look like a simple economic supply and demand curve graph.

I am sure they track actual to paid and can use it for at least forecasting the next years paid. At some point the line will cross when apathy sets in.

The other factor is the fan reaction. While I certainly understand the coach wanting it for recruiting, I have to think the fan reaction would be fairly loud and negative.

I'm pretty sure that anything someone posts here doesn't have too much affect on the outcomes.

Why talk about how to improve MBB? It won't affect the outcome.

Why talk about KKK breasts? It won't affect the outcome.

Why talk about NCAA tourney sites in 2009 & 2010? It won't affect the outcome.

Why talk about whether spors are insignifiganct overall? It won't affect the outcome.

McDermott's contract will have more than 3 years at the end of this season, and not because it's being extended, because it's already longer than that.

    wow just wow.

    pot meet kettle.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Wow, I think the person linking the dead horse beating must have gotten exhausted and stopped posting entirely by now! If I had to post a dead horse beating every time one of these threads came up I'd be exhausted too!

HAHA! That random inclusion tells me all I need to know about you.

I sat behind JP at the game yesterday. He looked like someone shot his dog. His emotions are obviously quite attached to the program. That's got to be a stressful lifestyle.

Re: Pollard might have a tough decision......

Basketball coaches typically get at least 3-4 years to deliver results. Pollard has several times that he considers this to be McDermott's first year, therefore he will be here for at least the duration of his contract.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

Leave the racism crap off the site, there is no need to cal fellow Cyclones racists.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Re: Pollard might have a tough decision......

We tasted success with Orr, Floyd, Eustachy, and Morgan> (some). With Coach Mac that has not been the case in three years and some of the fans are tired of what they see I beleive. Same thing with football and now that we have been there and now that we are not I think the fans feel betrayed because we do care alot about our programs here and donate money. Not to mention thousands of fans that still go to football and basketball games with teams that are not successful as of right now. I just think that if other programs around the country were experiencing what we are right now would not even come close to the turn outs that the Cyclones still get. Jamie has a lot to think about and will he give him the extension? I do not know, but I think the fan base is still strong and next year will be the telling tale for mens Bball and even football.
