    Notre Dame

How many times does Notre Dame need to get blown out in a BCS Bowl before they are no longer guaranteed a spot? Where would Notre Dame have finished in the SEC...somewhere between Vanderbilt and Ole Miss?

Theres a good article on this topic on ESPN.com. It's a good read if you feel ND is always given more respect than they earn, and placed in Bowl Games they don't deserve to be in.

My thoughts exactly. It is no wonder they own the longest streak of losses in bowl games. They are often in games they have no business being in. I love seeing them get blown out but let's have teams in the BCS games that deserve to be there.

    Re: Notre Dame

I'm torn-- is it better to not have ND in the bowls at all or to have them in and watch them get pasted and set records for consecutive bowl losses?

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

I personally love seeing them get pasted. I love the look on there coaches and players faces when they realize that they are down 3 touchdowns and the other team is actually deserving of being in the game.

Kind of ironic considering how much hype they received from ESPN throughout the season. #2 preseason? Give me a break.

    Re: Notre Dame

What did everyone think about Weis' comments on Brady Quinn being one of the top three QBs in the NFL in three years? Jamarcus Russell definitely had the better surrounding cast last night, but he could be good, too. I really like Boise State's QB; he has a strong arm, is surprisingly fast, ran a complicated offense to perfection and is a gutty competitor like Favre.

    Re: Notre Dame

I think Quinn regressed this year. I don't know about his stats, yet he just didn't look comfortable and make the types of plays he did in '05.

It will be interesting to see how he does in the NFL.

    Re: Notre Dame

Yeah and you can be rest assured that they will be overated again next year.
Honestly I think all the little special rules in the BCS formula for ND need to be removed from the rule book.
And then when they can't get in a decent bowl game anymore they will be forced to join a conference....

ND will never (or the chances are very, very slim) join a conference unless that conference let them keep their lucrative TV deal.

About Quinn, he has regressed. Somehow he is still thought as as the #1 pick in the NFL draft.

    Re: Notre Dame

I love how the announcers always speculate where players are going to be taken in the draft. With all of the pre-draft camps and individual workouts this spring, we're far from knowing who is going to be taken when and where. Who would have thought Reggie Bush would get passed over by Houston?

    Re: Notre Dame

Yeah I realize that, but the NCAA could use some mucsle to force them into a decision. They would be crazy to go and join one on their own. But if any their little bowl loopholes get cut sooner or later they may feel the squeeze.

As for Quinn well imho he did not really exibit this season that he was the best quester back in college, maybe his supporting cast is that bad that he was the only reason they won the 10 games he did. But I guess we will have to wait till combines to see how well he does there.

Why doesn't NBC just start a Notre Dame Bowl and invite someone to play at Indiapolis Dome? Play it eve of 24 Dec to get it over with.

This sounds exactly like what Bill Callahan is facing and saying:
"I think the first thing that's got to happen is that everyone is thinking the same way I'm thinking," Weis said. "They can't be content to be 10-3 and going to a bowl game and getting your clocks cleaned. That's my responsibility. It would be really easy for me to sit here and blame the players, but I would be at fault.

"We've got to turn the corner because right now we've got a nice, solid team. You want to be an upper-echelon team, not a nice, solid team, and a team competing for national championships. That just won't cut it with how this ended."
