    McCarney considered for Minnesota Job?

Here's a link to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The column says Dan McCarney is being pushed by some influential people for the University of MN job.

Re: McCarney considered for Minnesota Job?

I'm pretty surprised by this. I always felt Mason was the DMac of the Big 10. I think it would be a hard sell to the Minnesota fan base, but I would at least have one Big 10 team I could root for.

Re: McCarney considered for Minnesota Job?

Why all the continued interest in McCarney? We need to forget about the mediocre-to-poor "McCarney Era" of ISU football and focus on the future!

I would highly doubt that he gets this job or any other decent job based upon his track record.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

D-Mac to Minny..........Media fluff.......never happen. Look at the records...Mason did better than Mac over his tenure. If they hired D-Mac they should have kept Mason.
Mason's biggest problem was his arrogant air he had with fans and alum.....he side stepped alot of tough questions concerning the program. Granted he wasn't the face of the University that D-Mac was.

Personally I like and respect DMAC and hope he does well. I hope that's OK with you.

Because he coached here for 12 years, and most of us like him as a person and wish him well in the future.

If you're disinterested, maybe you should just be quiet.

My bad. Just sick of the constant mac-bashing every time someone brings up his name.

I read the print article this morning...anyone have any idea who the "influential industry" person the article references might be??? Seemed a strange way to put it.

Re: McCarney considered for Minnesota Job?

I'll always root for Mac and I hope he lands a decent job. I really think people make too much out of his overall record. You have to take into consideration that his first years at ISU he took over the mess Jim Walden left him and basically had nothing to work with. Take his record from 2000-2006 and you get .500 record of 43-43 with 9 win season and four 7 win seasons. Two losing seasons in 7 years to go with that. His first 5 seasons the most games he won was 4 and that was in 1999 which would be the first season he had a team of entirely all his recruits then the following season they went 9-3.

You can argue about who we beat, the quality of bowl games, or whatever but 5 bowl games in his last 7 seasons and a .500 record in that span for a school that never had maintained any kind of success like that prior to him arriving is not a bad thing.

And what really makes me irritated are those who bash him and downplay what he did for ISU football. If it weren't for him there is no way the program would be where it's at where we could get someone like Chizik to come here. You can't tell me you didn't enjoy those bowl trips and the warm weather in late December. It sure beat having to watch all those horrible Walden years where we'd rush the field and tear down the goal posts for beating some crappy team like Ball State or some no-name University that ended with Tech or State in their name or something then sit at home at the end of the season and hope we win more than 1 or 2 games the next season. Be glad that we can be excited for ISU FB for a change and have expectations because it it weren't for Dan McCarney we wouldn't even care about what is going on with the FB team right now. I hope he gets a chance to be head coach at a decent school because he deserves it and I think a change might re-energize him.

Re: McCarney considered for Minnesota Job?

No one can talk about Mac anymore because he is not our coach...

Or don't talk about recruits who turned us away only to be struggling at a lesser school...

Can we only talk about things cyclone-related?

Wow, I'm glad we didn't get caught a few months ago. All during the hiring process for a new football coach, this whole board was talking absolutely nonstop about 15 different guys and none of them was an Iowa State coach! Whew, that was a close one. We could have gotten in some serious trouble there...

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Why? Are you more loyal to a person (DM) than to the institution ISU? Why would you ever want ISU to lose to Minnesota?
