Amazon Kindle? I don't get it.

I have been reading up on the new release of the Kindle and personally I don't know anyone that owns one (besides Oprah). What's the deal? Does anyone own one and if so, why?

My mom owns one, and it looks really cool to me. I really like the features as far as the screen that doesn't burn a hole in your eyes, and the ability to download a book in a couple of minutes.

Their library ("Kindle Store") is expanding constantly. It seems like a cool deal to me. If you'd like, you could buy me one.

Well, I can't really call it a cell phone because it's more than a phone. How about portable computer phone? PCP. I like it.

Edit: After further review, smart phone is the proper term. Carry on.

Re: Amazon Kindle? I don't get it.

    I totally want a Kindle.

It's different from a PDA because it has electronic ink, and the ability to download books in minutes from the Amazon store. It's the size of a paperback, so you're not confined to staring at a small PDA screen.

I understand that a PDA can do much more, but people who buy a Kindle buy it because it does one thing, and does it well.

That was going to be my first response but I instead used the power of the google. I love my multitasker!

I do need to lose some weight.

Have you seen Oprah lately? She has relapsed.

(At least that's what the magazines in the grocery store checkout tell me.)

I sat next to a woman on an airplane and was totally looking over as she was reading it. I finally had to ask how she liked it and she had me impressed. I'm holding back a little because of the pricetag, but about ready to take the plunge.

+ The screen is not back-lit, so you can read it outside in daylight (like a book you need light shining on it)
+ It's lightweight and slimline no lugging thick paperbacks
+ you can download any book with its wireless connection
+ The battery lasts many hours.
