    Help-Xbox 360.

My friend's 360 broke, and he's too lazy to fix it himself, so I'm trying to give him a hand:
Whenever you plug the 360 in, it gives the e74 screen. I don't want to dismantle the 360. Is just sending it in to xbox the best way to fix it, or are their any other quick fixes that don't violate the warranty?
    Thanks for your help.

I think you can hold the power button in for a reset. Not sure if that has been tried. Otherwise, this might help:

My husband's had the same problem about a month ago, along with one red light in the "ring" on the front of the console. It was, of course, a month out of warranty so we had to send it in. Cost about $100 to repair and took about 2 weeks to get it back. It's worked fine since we got it back, and they send a 1-month Xbox live card for your "inconvenience."

You can try a new A/V cord, but its most likely screwed. I would have it sent in to get it fixed, ive had two with the same error.

wrap that baby in a towel and cook it until you get 3 red lights that won't go away when you start it. After that, call xbox and request your "coffin", send it in, and wait for the replacement. No cost due to the extended warranty for that issue.

How old is the system? The overheating is a common problem with the earlier versions and everyone I know has had to send theirs in for a new one.

This is actually a good idea. Try to get the RRoD, worst case scenario it still doesn't work and you have to pay to get it fixed. If it's still under warranty just send it in, the replacement system is pretty quick.

I have gotten the RRoD twice now and each time only took about 3 weeks from calling them to getting the new x-box back....and is free which is the best part!!

Take the video game out. Blow in the front of it where you put it in the machine and try it again. No wait that is how you fix the old nintendo's. Nevermind my advice.

I have had the RRod for 4 months but have been too lazy to do anything. Do you need any proof of purchase to send it in and get a new one?

No, I registered mine on xbox.com first, it then said out of warranty and could trace back to when I bought it to the month. If you then go thru the repair prompts it will ask the specific reason and should break out the 3 red rings vs. any other reason. The console number on the unit is all you should need. I also believe it will show you the cost of repair, which should be free for the red rings issue.

After that, they should say they are shipping your coffin, once it comes follow the directions and then wait. Since it's been 4 months, the 3 weeks should be a breeze.
