    Sounds like Saban to Alabama

Everyone on the 'bama scout site says Saban will become their coach. This is also what many of the Dolphins assistants are thinknig.

Cold Pizza is reporting (unconfirmed) that Saban is getting on a plane to Tuscaloosa. Maybe we should share our top secret flight tracking software with them.

And coaches and organizations wonder why the media keeps asking the same questions even after coaches say "I'm not interested/I'm not taking the X job/blah blah blah"...A coaches word means almost nothing these days.

what he wants is money. simply put that is what Saben is all about.

oh and be sure he doesn't land flat on his face from failing at coaching in the NFL.

My question to Alabama and Saben: When your asst's know you are making $4mil a year, what should they expect to get?

    - keep.

Should Saban depart and Cowher "hang it up"...that's two attractive jobs open...outside Atlanta and Arizona.

Anyone think KF coaches Iowa in 2007?

    Who is Saben?

On the radio last night they were talking 8 years and $40 mil. It's quite a haul. I guess that's one way to conduct a coaching search. "Here's a blank check. Write your price" Personally I like Jamie's way better.

I would be ****** if I were a LSU fan. I'm guessing that'll be a heated game for a while.

Money is probably #2 on the list, I'd think job security would be #1. The Phins haven't be bad under Saben, they've been suprisingly competitive for their roster IMHO. However they still have no QB with the Dante experiment floundering, R Brown looks like an average back, and their highly touted defense has two probowlers looking at retirement.

I think the phins will need another couple drafts to turn things around, and I don't think the NFL will give him 5 years to turn out a winner.

He gets more bucks to start out at Bama with a new timetable and a similar recruiting region as LSU.

Greater chance of success for more pay and more time to succeed? I'd take that too.

Exactly right. If he "loved" coaching college football or "loved" coaching in the NFL he would have stuck with LSU or the Dolphins.

Following his heart...I laughed out loud at that one. More like following his desire for more $$$.

And I see Ferentz at Iowa next year. Sounds like the Steelers will hire from within. Also, it's now sounding like money is why Cowher will hang it up. He'll be back coaching in a year or 2.

That is a ridiculous amount of money to pay a coach. Alabama is ********.

It's almost as if you're inside Saban's head - as I assume that's exactly one of the thought processes he's gone through.

    Great post.

Why do coaches have to be different from rest of the population?

No one questions someone who switches employers in the "real world" for more money, why do coaches have be loyal?

Money was one of the reasons I switched jobs last March. It was one of 5 factors - being about #2 or #3 on the list.

No one got on my case for it - even my former employer.

If it's true, then that's a kick to the beans of the Dolphins ownership. They basically gave the guy the keys to the castle when they brought him in, letting him have GM duties as well.

Bama is still reeling from the Mike Price fiasco. Shoveling money at Saban smacks of desperation.

Good point, but if I repeatedly told my employer, clients, friends, co-workers that I wasn't taking a job and then 2 weeks later, I leave for that same job, you don't think that hurts my credibility??

The money is great. Hell, I'd leave too but why should anyone EVER believe a coach concerning their job?

They should not be loyal but if he comes out and says it's anything other than money then he is lying is butt off. Alabama is an embarrasment to college football. To have to pay a coach that much money to come coach your school is rediculous. There are plenty of outstanding coaches out there that they could have got to do the job just as good as Saban.

For the record. Bob Stoops. You are no longer the most rediculously overpaid coach in the land. Same with you Capt. Kirk.

As Mora said...it's a nasty business - you better be able to handle it...both coaches and owners/AD's.

If it benefited Miami to fire Saban and go another direction - what do you think they'd do? They're loyal to him - yet only to a point. Same with a coach - if it behooves him to make a change - do it.

2 weeks ago factors were likely not there to make it feasible to leave. Now, Alabama has made a formal offer - a very lucrative one - so the circumstances have changed.
