Is it time to add Refs?

It seems the refs are in the spotlight now more than ever. Most of the time it is for making bad or questionable calls. In the last 25 years the game has got much faster, the players are bigger, stronger, and faster, and so much rides on every play and call. In that time has there been an increase in refs doing games. In basketball and football games maybe it is time to add a few refs to get more calls correct.

No, get rid of them all and make all decisions from upstairs.

I'm not sure refs are any worse now than they were 10 years ago, I just think we "see" their mistakes more now. It is ridiculous the number of angles they can show a play from and the quality of replay they have now lets us see things we couldn't before on TV. The refs, however, still have the same view they did 50 years ago.

In the future, all officiating will be perfect because it will be done by computers.

I think that is part of it. I think the other part is that they like the Steelers.

I agree.....just picture ISU game replay angles (maybe one if we are lucky), and you get the idea of what they had in the past, if that. There will always be room for human error, and I'm not sure the average fan has the stomach to watch a game if they took the time to make sure every call was right.

They should have fans vote on penalties over the internet!

Given our track record on voting, that would result in us winning every single game we play!

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

They do need to do something about the age of these guys. Old, fat men cannot be expected to consistently put themselves in a position on the field to make the correct call for an entire football game. The NFL needs to seek out and train younger guys who are physically capable of running the field when needed.

IMO, the problem is the all-start crew stuff, as I mentioned earlier tonight. Instead of having a crew put together that has not worked together all year, the SB should be done by the best crew.

Re: Is it time to add Refs?

I have started to wonder if they will ever develop the technology to start putting some type of motion sensor or gps device in the football/shoes/goal line/endzone so many of the disputed calls would no longer have the human factor involved.

For example, if any part of the football crosses the goal line sensor, its a touchdown. Or if the sideline sensor is activated on a close to out of bounds catch, incomplete.

Of course it would have to be tested and all the different scenarios evaluated, but I have to think alot of the technology is already available.

not saying this is good or bad idea, just wonder if the NFL has ever considered it.
