    Updated attendance Numbers

Based on the out of conference, attendance numbers are a big positive for the ISU basketball team. Usually attendance numbers go up during conference play, and right now we’re averaging 12,164 in... PAID attendance. My goals for this team would be to average over 13,000 for all of conference play and actually get those folks who buy tickets to show up to games. It’s been pointed out before that while we may average 12,000 there have been a few nights were we’ve probably had no more than 6 or 7 grand in there. Let’s get some butts in the seats and help will this young team to victory. I’ll end my rant now.

This is an excellent number to have achieved though as fans. If we can maintain this attendance level it would be fantastic because it would put us in the top 25 in the country in attendance if the figures stay somewhat similar to what they were last year. That would be great considering this is such a rebuilding year and I think it would show how much faith there is in this current coaching staff. If we increased the average attendance to 13,000 even for conference play we would average 12,558 for the year and that is a very respectable number. Once again, if that numbers stay consistent with what happened last year that would put us right behind Texas in the top 25. I think everybody would be pleased with that, from Pollard on down.

Also, at the risk of sounding to “Iowa Centered”, their attendance so far this year is 10,759. But when comparing things like attendance numbers I think it’s good to compare similar programs with similar factors – region, population, etc. They were also one spot ahead of us (#25) in attendance last year.

Thanks BryceC, for the statistical info! I personally enjoy a lively Hilton compared to the dead one that occured a few times so far this year.

Or maybe you could buy a ticket and add to the total. :)

    Re: Updated attendance Numbers

Does anyone know the record for student season tickets? Back in the middle 80's when there wasn't PS 3's and the internet students like me filled half of the balcony(yes, from end to end, section 2 to 42) and the two parquet sections behind the visitors bench...I'd guess there were 5,000 students. I'd love to have someone verify the what and when of the record?

    Re: Updated attendance Numbers

While it be nice to have everybody paid at the games, who cares from a financial standpoint?

Attendance will pick up as we get into the meat of the season.

I think the players and coaches would like it if everybody that paid made it to games. I certainly would, it's more fun when it's full.

That's a great sign for a rebuilding program. I think everyone already knows what kind of base there is to build from for Iowa State basketball. If Mac gets this train rolling...look out because fans are just dying to get behind a winner.

I AGREE with you! But I can also say that from MY past experience, when I had Xtra football tickets, I Could NOT give them away! I could NOT get anyone who wanted them, NOT even a couple of alums who live close to me.

The alums son wanted to go so I gave him the tickets and told him to take them home to his parents. How bad is that for an alum?

IMHO this alumni group has a long ways to go in support of the football and basketball program.

I think that every alum who can afford it should at least give $100 to the cyclone club!!

    Re: Updated attendance Numbers

I was at the NDS game on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised with the number of people who were actually there for a New Year's Eve game against a "little known" but good opponent, not to mention the crappy weather. My only complaint would be the lack of energy from the crowd which at times did not seem to care that the 100+ NDS fans were louder than we were.

    This should improve as:

    1. ISU plays in the Big 12 and opponents are more recognizable(and despised).
    2. The students return. There were some students, but more importantly, no band and not enough cheerleaders to start and sustain any kind of crowd intimidation.
    3. Fans become accustomed to the new style of play. We're not going to have a lot of breakaway dunks right now, and the plan often is to slow the game down.

Anybody else make it to that game? Anybody else happen to hear me screaming "NOOO!" when Juri prepared for(but didn't take) a shot from the top of the key midway through the second half and as we were starting to pull away?

So, I guess my point would be that I would prefer not to draw attention to myself in the audience when vocally supporting the players on the floor. :-)

    Re: Updated attendance Numbers

I think I've got my money's worth out of the $99 tickets ($5.25/game) so far thanks to the people not showing up. I think I've sat at least 4 games in the lower level due to the Holiday break crowds but the best seat I've had was the last game where we able to just walk right down into the parquet section across from the ISU bench and find a whole row of seats open about 1/3 of the way from the court. Baffles me how people can spend all that money and not at least give the ticket to someone that would go. I would expect that now the conference play starts we won't be moving from our corner balcony seats anymore.

While it's great that the paid attendance is not bad it's strange how they announce some 12k+ crowds and like Bryce said, maybe only 7000 actual people were there.

Really???! I LOVED watching the burger challenge. Nothing like seeing college kids work it like that for a little competition.
