    Meet Herman

AMES, Iowa - In October, then-Rice offensive coordinator Tom Herman was watching the Kansas at Iowa State football game on television. He noticed something.
“I turned to Michelle (Herman's wife) and I said after the second quarter that the (Iowa State) quarterback (Austen Arnaud) is only a sophomore and had a chance to be really, really good in the Big 12 Conference,” Herman said.

    Re: Meet Herman

“We’re not going to try to fit a square peg into a round hole. At Rice, our quarterback and receivers were our strength. I can tell you that at Iowa State we’re going to spread, go no huddle and be up tempo. But what we do will fit the skill set of our players at Iowa State.”

By God, we may have an offensive coordinator boys!

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

    Re: Meet Herman

He gives a good interview. He is what, 15 years younger than Rhoads? I wonder if he will get the 'head coach in waiting' tag?

    Re: Meet Herman

I think I know why Coach Rhoads hasnt hired a defensive coordinator... Coach Herman is going to be able to outscore everyone.

    Re: Meet Herman

I couldn't be more pleased to hear that he will fit the offense to the players. I've thought for too long that we have tried to create an specific offense without having all the right players for it. This guy sounds like he will not only design a game plan based on our strengths but is also smart enough to know when to change it during the game when the opportunity exists. I think it is great news.

I'm also getting my hopes up that the defensive coordinator will be of the same mode.

I think it's also what you know.

I think all DI coaches get their start as a football player or a grad assistant.

    Re: Meet Herman

well, yeah. i feel like i know enough about football to be a grad assistant and learn more about becoming a coach, but those spots go to people who played college ball and usually know one of the coaches at the very least. since i decided to go to iowa state and get a better education than any one of the smaller schools i could have played at, i have no chance.

    Re: Meet Herman

He's fun to listen to. Out of everything going on at ISU, I think I am most excited about coach Herman and what he can do for our offense.

    Re: Meet Herman

I think he's going to be an excellent coach at ISU. I hope someone is pegged to be his understudy because he seems like he will move up the ladder rather quickly. I still would like an OC that offered a power game right now, but if we're going to spread it out like everyone else, Herm seems like as good of a guy to teach/coach it as anyone else.

    Loved this quote...

“I was impressed by how creative Todd’s offenses had been and how he could tailor his schemes to fit the talent available,” Rhoads said.
