    1999-2000 Basketball

Mediacom showed a rerun tonight of the Big 12 Championship from 2000 when we played Oklahoma. I'd forgotten that we were picked by some "experts" to finish last in the Big 12 that year and we go on to win the Conference, Big 12 title, and onto the Elite 8 where we got screwed by the refs in our final game against Michigan State.

What a stacked team we had. Marcus Fizer, Jamal Tinsley, Michael Nurse, Stevie Johnson, Cantrel Horton etc., etc. Larry Eustachy was still at the top of his game. Boy it was fun watching it all over again.....

That was a really great year to be a Cylcone and I went to a bunch of awesome games in Hilton.

Greg Mcdermott, I sure hope you can do it, but that team set the bar pretty high..

Clones win again!!! Gals also won the tournament. Football looked good. High point.

    Re: 1999-2000 Basketball

Heck Tinsley did that the whole season! Yes he did dribble the ball through a defenders legs at the end of the game and the guy was so surprised, he fouled Tinsley and fouled himself out of the game.

The whole team just played great together in 2000. The only other ISU team I can think of that had chemistry anywhere close was back in the Fred Hoiberg days.

Was this the same year that when we went to the fieldhouse against the rock chalk's and Cantrell Horton buried the 3 pointer from the K in Jayhawks just cross the half court line???

I think that was the following year...after Fizer was gone.

I got to go to the game in Lawrence when we won with Fizer and Tinsley...first time we won there in 17 years. Got to high-five Pete Taylor and Eric Heft after the game. Great memory.

By the way, Allen Fieldhouse is a barn disguised as a 1920's high school building.

That team also had Paul Shirley and Martin Rancik and can't remember if Richard Evans was on that team or if he came to ISU the following season.

I am pretty sure Evans was on that team.

That year didn't the football team finish ranked 25th in the country. Wow what a great year for Cyclone sports. Hopefully we will get back to that level and higher with the new coaches we have!

1999-2000 is when Fizer hit the late turn-around, fade-away jay on the baseline to seal it at Phog Allen. I was also there and it was unbelievable. The following year Horton made a couple of deep 3's.

Evans was on that team so was Brandon Hawkins.

    Re: 1999-2000 Basketball

I own a highlight DVD from the '99-2000 ISU men's basketball season. It is available from B&G Productions. Wow, we had an amazing team! It's full of highlights through the big twelve tournament............I think B&G also offers other seasons from MBB, WBB, and Football too. Check it out on line......pretty sure it is bandgproductions.com
