Left for Exposure? A WJ thread

I realize the Wes Johnson stuff is water under the bridge at this point and people are done talking about it, but I was watching Syracuse lose to Providence last night and had the following thought:

If Wes left ISU because he was convinced he could increase his national exposure (and therefore NBA draft stock), he should really learn who to listen to in his life. All he has to do is take one look at his current situation vs. that of Brackins. It ain't Syracuse Wes, but Brackins is getting a ton of national exposure at ISU while you drop into obscurity during your 1 year hiatus at Syracuse.

Hey Wes, you could be racking up the accolades and national exposure alongside Craig, but decided little ol' ISU wasn't a big enough stage for you. Have fun fighting for minutes and trying to stick out among a bunch of 4-5 star players at Syracuse next year, while CB works his way up to being a top 5-10 draft pick. Tool.

Apparently it isn't water under the bridge for some people...

That said, we would be a much different team with Wes this year.

I think I get your point, but it comes off as sour grapes. He's gone and he'll have to figure out what's best for him.

Beating a dead horse...But you can tell our current team is a middle of the pack b12 team as opposed to a bottom feeder if he is still around.

Syracuse is playing on ESPN or ESPN 2 a whopping 15 times this year, Brackins had our only game on ESPN vs Kansas. Will he be competing against other quality players??? Yes, but I compare it to Tyler Smith's situation---Smith has way more exposure playing at Tennesee than when he was the man at Iowa. I honestly expect Syracuse to be a top 10 team next year with Harris, Flynn, JOhnson, Devendorf, and Onuaku as their starting 5. Probably the most balanced starting 5 in the county with anybody able to put up 25 in a night

Rite now in this country EVERYONE does what is in their best interest...

Wes Johnson did what was in his best interest aka moving on to Syracuse....Its not about Iowa State and their big 12 struggles as far as WJ is concerned...It's all about Wes and what he wants to do with his career...

    Best of Luck Wes......

Every Syracuse game I have watched they have mentioned Johnson. He is getting plenty of National Exposure without even playing...

Yes, according to the resident program insider, we would be a much worse team with WJ. He was a cancer you know.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

WJ defense is pretty similar to Lucca's. Lucca shoots better, but WJ can create his own shot and rebounds better.

So IMO opinion, what we lose with WJ is the difference between what WJ would average compared to what Lucca is averaging (pts & rebounds)....plus any value that would put Lucca at the 2 guard.

And right now we aren't getting a lot out of Lucca.

I am confused by your post kg... are you saying we would only be slightly better with WJ? Because that is pretty depressing if so.

Re: Left for Exposure? A WJ thread

This was the year where WJ could have gone back to play the three for us, instead of chucking up threes from outside all the time like last year. He really screwed this team.

I wonder what his ex-teammates think about him? I wonder how much resentment there is for his actions.

Not sure what is so confusing...but I would guess ultimately we would be scoring about 10 pts more per game.

Re: Left for Exposure? A WJ thread

No doubt this team would be better. Over and over, we hear or talk about how we need an athletic 3. This was Wes's year to be that athletic three, and showcase his game for the NBA.

With the double threat that he and a developing Brackins would become, the offense on this team looks entirely different. Those two would be threats to score most times down the court, and our three-point shooters should have been able to get more open looks.

I don't doubt that this team was designed with that very idea in mind. It would have been a team with two stars and well-designed role players.

Certainly, that team doesn't lose to SDSU, Hawaii, or Colorado, and probably holds on to beat Drake. Kansas? Only needed one more scorer to show up. Texas? Who knows?

We would have had a very legit chance in every game. It's too bad that Wes left his team out to dry that way, but it's over now. It would have been awesome to see what Greg would have done with that team, but we're not going to know.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I don't get it....doesn't WJ have to sit out a year this year for transfering. So how would he be making his new team better?
