We lost most of our games that Stevie was out and won most of the games he was in. He makes a difference. We need a line that can create a hole.

I would tend to agree with the idea that Stevie just doesn't do it for me. I my opinion he runs to upright, no breakaway speed, to slow to the hole and acts like he's afraid to take a hit. I would have to agree he does have the ability to hang on to the ball. I was a little disappointed last year in the fact that we pulled the redshirt off of Jason Harris and he hardly played. Granted he had a couple of fumbles, but he also had some good runs as well.

Recently I saw some ISU football players at a fundraiser and asked them about Stevie and what we could expect from him this year & their response was "well, he's healthy". When you get that kind of response from several offensive starters, it makes you wonder their thoughts on Stevie's abilities going into his senior year.

However, if Stevie can prove me wrong and have a strong year (1,000+ yards) we should do extremely well as a team this year. I can't hardly wait for football to start.

One thing you guys are forgetting is his blocking abilities. Granted, we're not handing out schollies to RBs for their blocking ability, but it's another positive in his game.

With that said, he's not my first pick either. He simply dances too much in the backfield. Even when he ran for 1K a couple of years ago, he wasn't hitting the hole hard. He's supposed to be a big bruising style RB that runs people over. He just doesn't have the quickness to out-juke defenders. He's got a big muscular body that should be ramming through that line.

Come on Stevie - you've got one season left to prove that you can get it done...

I look at him as an unknown going into the season. If he stays healthy and our line can create some holes, he has some great upside. He doesn't have that explosive nature to his run where he's just going to blow past everybody but we don't necessarily need that if he can be consistent, healthy, and provide some added yards to our great passing game.

I agree that he may have been dissapointing at times but I think it has to do with the lack of being at 110%. He has been dealing with injuries, even a lot of minor injuries that aren't ever really reported, and that hurts not only his game on the field but his mental aptitude as well.

He isn't Troy Davis, but we also don't need a 2,000 yard runner this year either, imo. If he can provide some quality minutes and have a decent backup, I think we'll do just fine in the running game.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

    Amen to that.

We've been very spoiled over the last 10 years with some really good backs. Would I love to have a Troy Davis this season with these other offensive studs? Hell yes!

But we don't. Last year was just one of those things no one can control. Stevie just couldn't get healthy. Plus, our line wasn't very physical.

I think the line will play much better this season, allowing Stevie more room to run. If Scales can get healthy and Harris can hold onto the football, I think we'll have a nice rotation of backs to compliment our passing game.

This had alot to do with the pass rush that Stevie was very good at defending. Every game he was out Meyer was huried multiple times. With the recievers we have, Stevie is very crucial to buying Meyer valuable time. He not the best rusher I have seen, but did go for over 1000 in 2004, and to me is not so bad! Lets just hope he is ridid of his injury.

If Stevie was healthy last year we would have won the Big XII north and went to a January bowl game. Enough said!

If we had a kicker who make the ones a DI schollie kicker should make (not all, just a reasonable amount), we would have the won the BIg XII North, and went to a Jan bowl game.

If Stevie can run like Ricky or Eddie (two Heisman Trophy Winners), we will have a legitimate chance at the National Championship. Goonies, if you are attempting to rip on Stevie, it doesn't make sense to use two examples of individuals that were voted the best players in the nation while they were in college. Stevie is what he is when healthy, a solid but unspectacular back who is very important for the success of this team. The real hope we have is for Harris or one of the frosh to step up because, if you recall, it wasn't until Scales seriously threatened him as a starter in 2004 (outrushing him at Baylor) that Stevie turned his game up a notch and scored all 5 of his rushing touchdowns during the final 6 weeks. ISU's record in that stretch 5-1. ISU's record last year when Stevie was able to play and lead the team in rushing - 5-0. To me, wins and losses are what truly matter.

What would Troy Davis have been able to do with the kind of teams we've had the last few years? Granted, he wouldn't be handed the ball on EVERY SINGLE DOWN because we have other options now. However, he would have a better core of players complimenting his game. He got the yards during his time even when EVERY team knew he would get the ball on every down. With a few more options and other players to defend, Davis could have broken some really huge runs with the players we have had recently.
