    Is Mizzou Done?

To me Missouri's window to join the elite shut as soon Daniel threw his final touchdown of his career to Maclin to beat Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl.
They lose 6 starters on offense including their #3 receiver, #2 running back who was great to use to give Washington a rest here and there, as well as their #2 QB (not really a big deal). Among those leaving are Chase Daniel, Chase Coffman, Tommy Saunders and Jeremy Maclin. They also loss Tru Vaughn who was a good returner. That's a lot of production. It's hard to find another team that lost that many major contributers on offense.
In addition to the losses on offense Missouri losses 7 defensive starters. It could have been 8 had Sean Weatherspoon decided to leave, but he is staying and that's a good decision for Missouri and himself.
The biggest loss to me is the loss of offensive coordinator Dave Christensen. To me he was running the show and it was Christensen who made the offense into the power it was.
I think Missouri peaked at the Nebraska game this year and have been sliding ever since.
They will continue to be better than they traditionally were, but I think they are a 7-8 win per year team now and any talk of a national championship around there won't happen for a long time.

With K-State and Iowa State way down and Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas treading water they still have an opportunity to be an upper-tier Big 12 team.

    Re: Is Mizzou Done?

As a service to Missouri fans, just so they don't have to wonder if they will keep their "spot", we'll just go ahead and take it off their hands, and help them head on down to the cellar.

It's a difficult service to provide sometimes, and they might not be very grateful, but we can do this just for them.

    Re: Is Mizzou Done?

Didn't they pick up a highly touted QB not too long ago? I think he was a 5* named Blake Gabbert or something like that.

I bet he's pretty good, and it seems like Pinkel's recruiting has been pretty good the last few years. I bet they're still an 8-10 win team next year.

If they keep Richardson at DT and don't lose him to Miami they will be pretty dang good in 2 years

    Re: Is Mizzou Done?

i agree with the original poster.

however they never really were an elite team. they really have only been a second tier team, the big 12 north has just been that bad imo.

i honestly think MU is lucky to win 6-7 games this coming season and would not be too surprised to see ISU beat them. they lose so much on offense that it is crazy and their defense was not all that great to begin with........

True. It was a Big XII defense.

Kind of difficult calling a team a "conference elite" when there are at least 4 teams from the South that are likely better than them...

    Re: Is Mizzou Done?

I think they're really similar to ISU when we had our last bowl run with Seneca Wallace(however they went much further..).

Chase Daniels in the Linch pin for me. You can't replace a player like that. Just look back when he started playing in that infamous game at Missouri where we had them beat pretty easily with former star Brad Smith on the ropes. Bam Smith gets hurt and Daniels presence changed the whole game and they won.

He's gone and with all those starters with him, it's going to be a down year. They're not done, but that game will be much more winable for all teams who play them then this year was.

You might be right here with one caveat. I still regard Mizzou as one of the potential 'sleeping giants' in college FB. They are the only D-1 FB school in their state and have two decent sized metro areas to recruit from in the immediate vicinity (St. Louis, KC). I am certainly no high school FB expert particularly for the state of Missouri, but it seems to me that a state with a population of 5 - 6 million with only 1 D-1 FB school has a lot to offer in terms of building a program.
