    Ferentz quote

    From espn.com

The Hawkeyes then got tripped up by their own trickery. Texas safety Marcus Griffin tackled Dominique Douglas for a 9-yard loss on a wide-receiver pass on first down. Iowa punted three plays later.

"A field goal wins the game," Brown said. "Then they got in trouble. It was the game-changing play."

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz regretted calling the trick play.

"It's totally my fault. I'm sick over it," Ferentz said. "Guys competed that long and that hard and that put us in a bad situation."

Actually, it's in Sean Keeler's article

Typical Iowa response...We've run that play 1,000 times," running back Albert Young said. "The refs blew it."

Iowa players, and Iowa fans can just not admit to the fact that they lost the game fair and square, there is always some type of excuse.

For the people wondering about chandler, this is how i think it went down... Now Scott Chandler was put in motion, since both of the recievers were on the line he either had to go in the backfield which he would be eligible, or stay alittle off the line and block. If he was on the line then there would be a penalty for too many on the line...so either way this play was dead unless chandler went into the backfield.

I have never heard of this penalty.

I dont know what the specific "name" for the penalty is called, but you can only have a certain number of players on the line. Its usually never called beacuse the people who make the plays make sure there is no illegal shift, and if the play has enough people on the line.

The rule is you must have 7 on the line. There is no penalty for having 8 players on the line of scrimmage.

That is correct, goggle is a good thing.

Question: How many players have to be on the line of scrimmage? Answer: For the offense, you must have 7 or more players on the line at the snap. If not, it's an illegal formation, 5 yard penalty. The defense, on the other hand, is not required to have any players on the line or to be in any particular formation.

    Re: Ferentz quote

You're wrong. He was on the line and was covered up by a reciever. Therefore he can't go out for a pass. You could have 10 guys on the line if you wanted. Only two would be eligible to catch a pass or leave the line.

I think that's a classy reply by Ferenz. He's shouldering the blame 100%.

Don't get me wrong; I don't like Iowa mostly because of their fans, but I will say I like Ferenz a lot better than Hayden Fry.

The refs were right; the EIUs were wrong. Makes a good whine.

That's why if youlook at a shot of the line of scrimmage on TV the receivers are lined up half a yard to a yard off the line of scrimmage (kind of in a bow). That's far enough away from the line to keep the TE from being covered up and keeping him eligible.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
