Refs cost Iowa victory again..just ask

Just ask Keeler from the DM Register. His featured column says that once again this year, the officials cost Iowa their bowl victory. Eventhough the call was right, it should not have been called..huh?

Can't you imagine though, Iowa would've been up 21-3 on that call! Of course Iowa deserved to blow out a team like Texas. (Sigh.)

I knew listening to this game at work that all the Iowa fans coming through would be whining about that call, and sure enough, almost everyong clad in black and gold said that the refs screwed them over. Not Drew Tate's pitiful play in the 4th quarter (anyone see that play where he ran around in circles not knowing what to do in the pocket?). Iowa lost the game fair and square.

Fortunately, there are a number of intelligent responses to Keeler's pro-Hawk propaganda just below the article. Hopefully, no one at the "rag" decides to delete them. BTW, thanks for the link!!

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

What about the pass interference in the endzone against Iowa on third down that was never called that cost Texas a TD in the first quarter and they had to settle for a field goal.

For the 7th time in 13 games, the refs screwed Iowa out of a legitimate win.

This is just another reason I can't stand Iowa.

Yeah, we lose to Alabama on a call that was actually wrong and the Hawks get more sympathy from the register over a call that was actually right. Another reason I also hate the hawks and the register!

Captain Kirk did admit the refs got the TD penatly call right after he saw the videotape. But Iowa did get screwed on the last possession when the Texas running back ran out of bounds but the refs didn't call it, allowing the clock to almost run out.

I watched the replay on Tvo, and it didn't look like his foot ever hit the sideline stripe. His toes came up off the turf just before touching the white. That's how it looked to me, anyway.

After 25 years, Midland champs again!!! Way to go Cael and Co.!!!

Sorry about that , Hawks. You played much better than anyone thought, except your own fevered fans. It will take several years of "bad luck" and blown calls to even up the football fortune bestowed on you when LSU failed to cover (or simply tackle) that third receiver in the Cap One Bowl. Remember, the sun don't shine on the same dog's _ss every day.

Typical Iowa response.....We've run that play 1,000 times," running back Albert Young said. "The refs blew it."

Re: Refs cost Iowa victory again..just ask

I find it quite interesting the Keeler drastically changed his article before the paper went into print. Instead of blaming the loss on the penalty, he points to the Douglass reverse. He still mentions call that took away the touchdown, but this is an entirely different article that what was online last night.
It is nice to see that someone put Keeler in his place after spouting more of his nonsense.

At least the Hawks made it to a bowl in a losing season.

    Grats on the 6-7!

Imagine the champagne flowing in luxury booths over the 6-7 Hawkeyes. Yeah! they played in a BOWL! They kept it close! How sad, demoralizing to EIU faithful.

Images of drunk bumblebees make me excited to see what happens in '07.

I'm still trying to figure out why Keeler hasn't responded to my email.
Hm, probably had something to do with asking him why he thought he still deserved a paycheck.

I would tell Mr Keeler that Drew Tate lost the game when he threw a pick on the very next play.

Texas then proceeded to go 80 yards for a touchdown just before halftime and you could see all the wind go out of the squawks sails!

The des moines ragester headline should read: Fiery Competitor Cost the Iowa Sqawkeyes the bowl game!
