    Pro Uniforms and Team Names

I was flipping around and came across the Rams/Titans Super Bowl. A couple of things came to mind that bugged me...

    1. I hate when teams try to update their uniforms to be in style for this moment in time. Case in point...those Rams uniforms (blue and yellow) are so much better than the newer version (gold and blue). They just look gaudy.

I think it is amazing that the Arizona Cardinals haven't changed their uniforms. Through all the years of terrible football they, for the most part, have stood pat. Way to go Cardinals! Keep that classic look forever.

    2. I think if a team comes to a new city from a different city you must take that nickname. For instance, how weird would it be if the Los Angeles Lakers were the Los Angeles Surfers? How about instead of the Utah Jazz they are the Utah Mountains? I would much rather be watching the Tennessee Oilers instead of the Titans.

If you get an expantion franchise you can name the team whatever you like.

    You're kidding, right?

These were the Cardinals' uniforms a couple of years ago:

Quite different from what they are now:

I do agree with you, though - I hate this whole "modernization" of uniforms. While I like the way the Falcon's logo changed in 2003, I hate the uniforms that went with it. Almost any Falcons fan I've talked with agrees that we would love to have the new logo on the '90s uniform. And it's not just with football, but basketball and hockey are also coming out with these crazy, crappy "new style" uniforms. It really makes me appreciate baseball, where they've kept the traditional style uniform.

Re: Pro Uniforms and Team Names

The Cardinals have definitely changed their look over time! Even the Steelers have tweaked their uniforms. It was a subtle change but if you look at old photographs you can definitely tell. The numbers used to be block and now have been rounded off.

I do agree about the "modern" look of many uniforms...I hate it! Reminds me of how bad NBA uniforms got in the 90s!

I remember when the Packers were going to go back to their old colors of blue and yellow. There was a near riot in Green Bay, but now you can get ACME Packers gear in those colors.

Ok, maybe I was talking more about the helmet and logo rather than the uniforms!

I sort of agree. It seems like all the uniforms I like are the old school ones. I love the Bear's uni's (my favorite team), and I like the steelers uniforms despite the colors. I can't stand the newer uniforms and logos like the panthers and jags, they are too fancy for football uniforms.

I think it depends on if you're old school or not.

True! I do like the Cardinals helmet! Reminds me of the days growing up when they still played in St. Louis!

I love the "retro" look of some teams...even though I strongly dislike the teams from NY...I love their unis! The Jets unis are just awesome!

I remember this well....Holmgren and Wolf nearly had a riot on their hands before they agreed to stick with the orginal uni's. This happened in the early 1990's...

Yeah, like the Houston Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Diego Padres?

Re: Pro Uniforms and Team Names

I have to say that I prefer alot of the older uniforms. I can't say I am a huge fan of the Vikings new uniforms but its not like I didn't see the change coming. It was the first time their history they changed more then some stripes. I really like the Detriot Lions throw backs with the silver helmet (no logo), the blue jersey with no stripes and silver pants with no stripes. Very simple and they look sharp.

I completely DISAGREE. I believe that the team name belongs to the City, not the FRANCHISE.

Cleveland Browns - The name BROWNS belongs in Cleveland.

Baltimore Ravens - How stupid is that? They should be the Baltimore Colts. That area of the country raises Horses that is how they got the name colts.

Tennesse Oilers? That is just dumb. How many Oil wells are in Tennessee compared to Houston.

YOU are completly misguided on this topic.
