Proof that winning is ALL that matters...

    Three programs...three different situations.

The first program has a modest history, with peaks and valley's, but is fairly well respected around the college basketball world...the program is going through a real lull, with a coach that has yet to win in his third season...he handles himself in a classy way, and refuses to take "shortcuts", or do things that are viewed by the rest of the NCAA and general public as "morally wrong"...finally, things appear to be heading the right way, but fans are on the fence...as it has taken a long time, and fans are tired of waiting.

The second program has a rich history...it's coming off of a national title...the program is currently on probation...last year it had two players get kicked out of NBA draft camp for possesion of marijuana...it also had a player wrapped up in a sexual assault case...not to mention, the head coach hired a kid's dad as an assistant, just to land the kid...that kid later hit a 3pointer to send the national title game to ot, where the team won...the kid went pro after the season, and his dad coincidentally also left his assistant position...fans couldn't be happier.

The third program also has a rich tradition...it's coach hired a kid's dad (who is also an aau basketball coach) to speak at multiple basketball camps, and paid him fairly well to do so. Coincidentally, the kid will be attending his university next year...the coach also was warned by the NCAA as he attempted to change his scheduled midnight madness to a different date, so that a star recruit could be there...there have recently been rumors flying around this university for tampering with other teams players, although nothing has been proven. The fans at this university are extremely excited about the future of the program.

It's a dog eat dog world we live in...and if they can get away with doing things illegally, recruiting thugs, or doing legal things that are morally wrong...I guess it's hard to fault them...but I believe the NCAA has a lot bigger issues at hand than adding more bowl games...I just wish they'd pay attention to them.

You are right....winning cures all ails within a college basketball program.

    I'm guessing Memphis.

Memphis also has paid players' dads to come speak.

Edit: I also think it's funny how we think we're different - Orr's and Floyd's teams weren't exactly composed of choir boys and we loved those guys.

Ironically if it wasn't for the rumored cheater at school number 3, team number 1 would very likely be looking pretty good with both CB and WJ.

Re: Proof that winning is ALL that matters...

With the exception of the National Championship part, Kansas State fits the description of #2 as well.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

You are wrong...Kenny Pratt was a choir boy.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

It's college basketball. You have to get your hands dirty to be successful IMO. It's like the SEC in football, "if you aint cheatin', you ain't trying."

That's the reality of college basketball. You could make a very compelling argument that men's college basketball is one of the dirtier sports in this country.

Re: Proof that winning is ALL that matters...

We did have a pretty good team in 99-00 without too much trouble on our team. I'm not saying they were choir boys, but nothing like team #2. It is a rough business, but you don't need to totally sell out.
