    DMac -- unbelievable

Just can't believe that some people are still Mac bashing. C'mon--he's gone already. Leave him alone. If nothing else, as a Cyclone fan, please don't bash anything ISU--especially anything from the past.

Look to the future with hope.

Look at the present with hope and constructive criticism if necessary (still no bashing!).

Look at the past with ISU tinted glasses and naught but tales of conquest, pride, and glory.

Agreed! Mac did some great things here and it's too bad that he had to leave the way he did. Hopefully there are better days ahead with the staff we have now. Can we still bash Barney Cotton and last years O-line though?

    Re: DMac -- unbelievable

i hate to break the news to you, but as the last coach, he is going to be the measuring stick for a long time. For a lot of Cyclones, he's the only coach they remember (in my case, at least)....and there will be a continued debate on if he was good, bad, or great.

    Re: DMac -- unbelievable

Now that Mac is gone, I think it is best to look fondly at his era as one that brought Cyclone football to the next level. Unfortunatly he could not take us to the next level beyond that. I would have loved to see him succeed, but also was glad for the change.

Thanks Mac, for all you did, and I look forward to the future with G.C.

    Re: DMac -- unbelievable

Avery, I agree, LET'S ALL MOVE ON. I am just sick of the doom and gloom. It seems like people think that we were going to go to a bowl game next year with Mac as the head coach. And that Tyrone McKenzie was the second coming of Mike Singletary. Neither of those were the case. We were 4 plays from being winless in '06 with a team that people on here were predicting Big 12 North championships for. It wasn't good AT ALL, people are seeming to forget that fact.

We have a new coach, and I am sure that there will be players who will be leaving between now and the start of next season. However, at this point we as fans have to trust what GC is doing. If it proves to be that he cannot coach at this level, lets let time determine that.

And PLEASE people enough of the revisionist history of Dan McCarney's career at Iowa State.

    Pot, meet Kettle.

Just as you grow tired of people praising D-Mac, so do many members grow tired of your obsessive bashing of the man that led this team for 12 years.

We were 3 plays away from being winless this year. We were also just plays away from being undefeated in '05 - yet I've never seen you give anyone credit for that.

If you're going to paint a picture, you need to do so from all angles.

Well, from the perspective of Barney Cotton being a real, live, breathing human being, I would have to ask why? Is it really that much fun?

From a 2006 football season perspective, I'm happy to consider BC as part of the problem. However, most people who know a lot more than I do would say you need 5 years for an OC to show what they can do with people they've recruited themselves.

So at the end of the day, it's in the past, it's not a positive thing, so I say leave it alone.

Or at least be a little nice about it

    Well Kettle,

It is frightening that you say that, because as obsessed as you are with my posts, you should have read several times that had they just won the games that they should have over the years, then Dan would still have a job with Iowa State.

My as bright as you try to come off, you are slipping.

Do you not understand that I am completely on board that it was time for Dan to go?

And just that quick, so much for moving on. And so much for what my original post was intended to imply--remember the good from the past and ignore/forget the bad from the past.

You know what Avery, I agree, we need to treat Dan like a long lost love, only remember the good things.

Please remember that for Gene's sake as well, so if by chance we struggle...

    Re: DMac -- unbelievable

That's exactly what everyone wants, fall over ourselves when praising D-Mac.

Dan McCarney will always be talked about when fans think of ISU football history. Gene will undoubtedly be measured vs. Dan and vice versa. Hopefully we'll have some years in the future that will make us forget about the past and rejoice even greater accomplishments.

Maybe, just maybe - the majority would like to see the non-stop slamming D-Mac to finally end - now that he's moved on. He's the guy that was "fired" - he's not bitter.

It's about time the fans follow suit.

Geesh - the guy didn't pass away. He was fired. Treat him like a long lost love? The dude isn't our grandpa - he was a coach. A nice-guy coach. But ultimately couldn't get done what he was hired to do.
