    Firefox versus IE

I have heard a lot about Firefox, mostly good.

I have IE, but recently I installed Norton 360, and since then the IE seems to have some problems connecting. I thought about installing Firefox as a backup or alternative.

    My questions are

    1) Is there any problem with having them both on the same computer, and can you just switch back and forth between them on the desktop?

    2) Will Norton 360 have any issues with it?

    3) Do I have to set Firefox as the default or anything?

    4) Will the install cause any problems?

Anything anyone can tell me will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

Firefox > IE. I have had both installed on multiple computers. Don't know about Norton, but I very much doubt there will be any problems.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

I have both firefox and IE on my computer, have ran them both together and have had no issues with that. Firefox does have crashing issues like IE does, but I have never had issues with Norton 360 running and Firefox. I do have Firefox set as the default, but I don't think you would have too.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

If there are problems connecting just since you installed Norton 360, I'm guessing it's not IE...

    but to your questions:
    1. No, you can have them both (I have Chrome, IE, and Firefox)
    2. It shouldn't...I have Norton on mine
    3. You don't have to, but you can
    4. It shouldn't cause issues.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

    1) no problem and yes you can
2)shouldn't, but I don't know why norton 360 was having issues with IE
    3) you can set it as the default browser if you want to have links opened into it, but you don't have to.
    4)nope, shouldn't have any problems.

Also, I'd consider google chrome, I added it and got rid of firefox recently and haven't looked back.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

I would say your problem isn't with IE it is with Norton 360 which is a very common problem.

but as other's have said Firefox > IE and you can have them both. But if you are having problems with IE now you will likely probably still have them with Firefox if norton is what is causing the problem.

I would get rid of norton first and see if that fixes the problem

Either way, Firefox is about a billion times better than IE in my opinion.

I agree. I have tried both and I have had less viruses and malware get through with Firefox, plus it hardly ever does the whole "Not Responding" mess that I get all the time with IE. I hated IE and have never had a problem with Firefox....yet atleast

Yep, this thread has just been pwned.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

IE is an absolutely terrible web browser. There have been several tests and benchmarks comparing Browsers and IE is very much at the bottom of the barrel. Firefox takes the cake only because it provides and has hundreds of Extensions that provide shortcuts for browsing.

Another great browser is Google's Chrome browser which is similar to Firefox, but it's tested to be quicker to render a page.

I use Firefox simply for Adblock Plus, Foxmarks, DownThemAll!, and New Tab Homepage.

    Re: Firefox versus IE

As a side note. Download firefox and then add the extension called IE tab. This will make it so you never have to use IE again. There are certain pages that don't work so well with FF so you just hit this button.

I find Chrome to be way overrated, I am going to give Opera a try though.
