    Favorite cyclone moment

ok....we all need something to do at work to get us through this friday!

Name your favorite cyclone moment, not necissarily the whole game, but moment!

For me the top two would be:

Adam Runk making the late 4th quater interception vs. Iowa in 2001. Loudest i'd ever heard Jack Trice.

Brian Boddicker missing two last second free throws as Iowa State basically steals a game away from Texas in 2004. Loudest I'd ever seen Hilton!

    Tell me yours!

Agree 100%...I was in the front row of the student section and it was crazy. The only time I ever remember rushing the court.

Probably the loudest I've ever heard was vs. Kansas in 2000. I think we were ranked 8 or something and KU was something similar. This was before the voucher system and I remember getting to Hilton at 7am for a 3pm game and there was already TONS of people ahead of me. Some people camped out and started a fire on the steps on Hilton. (I think part of the reason for going to a voucher system was this game). They let us into Hilton atrium around 9am because it was freezing. We ended up winning and it was the loudest I've EVER heard Hilton.

Also, going to Phoenix for the Insight in 2000 was great as well. 25,000 Cyclone fans...just amazing.

Can't forget ISU vs. FSU in Kansas City. One of my favorite football games.

    Re: Favorite cyclone moment

In the early 80s when both ISU and Iowa had good wrestling teams, there was a match between ISU and Iowa at Hilton. The meet went pretty well, with ISU holding a slim lead going into the last match. Problem was that Iowa had one of the Banach brothers (Ed or Lou - can't remember which) who was very good while ISU's heavyweight was not one of our better wrestlers. The crowd was pretty much resigned to the fact that we would lose the last match and the meet.

Our guy (I wish I could remember his name) somehow managed to roll Banach and stick him and the place exploded. The Cyclones had managed to beat the Hawkeyes and their stud wrestler got stuck all in one three second moment!

That was the loudest moment at any sporting event I have ever been to and one of my favorite ISU sports memories

    1) The first victory over Iowa after the big losing streak, 1998 I beleive. Driving around in the back of a truck on Welsh through the spontanteously packed streets.

    2) 2nd half of the "Brad Banks" game in IC.

I suppose you could add in Drew Tate "head" tackling....not greatest in history, but hilarious....especially hearing Iowa fans make excuses afterwords.

That was a great football game when we came back in the second half against Iowa... I was in Rock Bottom Brewery in WDM and the Hawks were whooping it up... needless to say they got very quiet and left midway through the second half...

I will never ever forget that moment, I was siting pretty close to the floor as well, and the whole student section was going freaking crazy while he was shooting the free throws, and it only got crazier once he missed the first one. Then I almost crapped my pants while I watched the ball be tipped around the rim for 3 seconds after the 2nd free throw, and almost got killed by the stampede of fans who rushed the court. This was definetly Hilton Magic at its finest, and there is no doubt that the fans where a huge reason the Cyclones won that day!

Agreed! people forget it wasn't just two free throws missed. Texas also missed two layups in the final three seconds!

How could I forget that game! I was there and we were getting beat soundly at half and I was so down about it. The second half was GREAT and walking out of Kinnick with a giant smile on my face while there was a funeral-like atmosphere in Kinnick.

    Re: Favorite cyclone moment

Most of you are showing your age with your memories (i.e. younger). I think I have 10-15 years on alot of you and will pick the following:

1.) Sweet sixteen team with Grayer, Hornacek, Virgil, Sam Hill, Elmer Robinson, etc. that beat Michigan. Packer and Nance did that broadcast and just belittled us at the start of the game (and I quote "It looks like the JVs vs the Varsity" also "Michigan is too big, too fast, and too strong"). By the end of the game, they were singing our praises.

2.) Marv Seiler run! Just an awesome game in total. I could only get one of my buddies to go to this game because it was supposedly hopeless. Nebraska was playing as well as anyone in the country and we were....well we were ISU with a backup qb. We DOMINATED that game and I think I needed to change my pants after the Marv Seiler run because it was soo damn exciting! Ames was nuts after that game. Just an awesome, awesome day.

3.) I forget the year, but the Okie State bball game when we came back from like 18 down to win. They had Byron Houston and were highly ranked. We had Hilton Magic. Of course Hilton Magic won out! Justus Thigpen went nuts in that game. For those that have been going to Hilton since the mid-80s...most will agree that it has NEVER, and I mean NEVER been as loud as it was that day. The freaking building was shaking and I'm not exagerrating.

Watched that one on TV as a little kid....my bro was almost in tears at half. I want our magic back! I want homecourt to mean no one comes in here and shows us up.

    .
I, too, was driving my pickup up and down Welch with about 40 people in the back.

My favorite was 05 vs Iowa when the jumbo-tron showed about 4000 obnoxious ********, clad in black and gold, leaving JTS in shame.
