    Re: Eric Heft

Great article - I just read it on cyclones.com before you posted.

Not sure why, but I didn't know Heft actually played for ISU?.....Missed the bus on that one.

I love our radio commentators and always have....too bad I can no longer listen to them living in Central Minnesota. Anytime a game was on t.v. growing up, my old man and I would put the t.v. on mute and turn on the radio for play-by-play.

    Re: Eric Heft

Great article and I'll add that I wish Maury John would have lived. I wonder what he would have accomplished here. His son John played on the team and his wife was a realtor in Ames for quite a while, anyone know what his son is doing now??

    Re: Eric Heft

I still mute the TV in preference for the PRO-ISU play-by-play. On occasion I'll catch an expletive shouted by an ISU coach, which adds to the entertainment.

Eric is a fantastic announcer who is as important to my enjoyment of ISU athletics as the players and coaches. Reading his comments about Pete Taylor defiantly put a lump in my throat. Good article. Congratulations to Eric.

"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

Eric Heft is great. He always has great insight to the game he is working. I like Walters a lot too but nothing beat Pete and Heft working a game.

"...and the Cyclones get a horrible spot..." I don't know how many times I've heard Eric say this.

    Re: Eric Heft

Walters and Heft balance each other out pretty well. Heft the homer and Walters staying pretty even keel. Makes it very easy to listen to unlike the other school in the state with 2 guys drooling over everything that happens for their team.

    Re: Eric Heft

I don't mind Heft's color in basketball too much but I wish he would sharpen his post-game interviewing skills. He tends to ask a question then provides the answer before he lets the interviewee speak. Often times the player can say little more than "yeah, that's right."

They're not perfect, but I don't really want to listen to anyone else do our games.

I think that he knows they're just coming down from the intensity of competition, and might not have their answers all formulated, and he's kind of guiding them along through the interview. In that sense, I think he's a pretty skillful interviewer, as far as what the show hopes to accomplish.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Imagine getting and interception or scoring thirty points in a game and them 20 minutes later having to say something meaningful about the play. It's hard when its so fresh, so to please the listenership at home, he greases the wheels.

Add to the fact that these are college kids. They can get shy when they have to do public speaking and they need help sometimes.

Man that article made me miss Pete Taylor.
