    Lacey back to point?

Go Cyclones - The highlight reel

Guard Heather Ezell said she hopes moving Alison Lacey back to the point, where she played for most of Wednesday’s 65-42 win over Missouri, will get the 2007-08 All-Big 12 second team performer back on track.
I think this is a good idea. Granted you have to look at the level of competition, but the offense looked much better Wednesday than it had been. This team has been winning because of defense and rebounding, so maybe it is time to shake up things offensively.

Lacey is a better point than Ezell. That's no knock on Ezell's abilities -- she's performed admirably at point and is an excellent 2-guard.

The reason for putting Ezell at point was the theory that Lacey would be able to do more without the ball than with it. That hasn't been the case this year, so I'm all for putting Lacey back at point. We can start Lacey at 2 guard again next season when Ezell graduates and either Williams or Yackley is likely starting at point.

I'd love to watch the archive of the Thursday press conference, but the video isn't working for me.

    Re: Lacey back to point?

It worked for me this morning.

Heather talked about the fact that her and Aus are interchangable (they can both play 1 & 2), and that could be very good versus Nebraska's pressure defense.

You are right - they are looking at whatever they can do to get Aus going - the good thing that I had noticed throughout the year was that was still doing other things, like passing for assists.

EDIT - season assists stats (tthrough Missouri)

    Heather 60 (3.3 per game)
    Aus 53 (3.1 per game)

Yeah, it's working for me now. I wonder if I was trying to watch while some system maintenance was going on.

    Re: Lacey back to point?

I think Aus would be better at point because she can penetrate better than Ezell. Ezell is probably a more natural 2 then Aus. Also, having Aus handling the ball gives her more touches. Sometimes working so hard to get the ball takes away from shooting ability. I'd say it is similar to what happend to Sid Spencer at TN when Summit told her to work for and get more shots, her 45% 3 pt shot went into the toilet.

    Re: Lacey back to point?

This is a good move. I kind of wondered why they didn't go back to it sooner after it became clear that neither Williams or Yackley was going to be starting this year. I realize that Aus thinks she is more comfortable/productive as a 2, but that doesn't seemt to be nearly as true for her as it is for Heather. I also think putting her at the point allows her to drive more and shake up her game a little bit like she did Wednesday. Hopefully the move gets here going a little bit.

    Re: Lacey back to point?

To my untrained eye, it seems we may appear vulnerable to a pressing defense - I'm sure Nebraska will try it. Lacey has, historically, been our best ball handler in terms of TO's.
