100 best companies to work for 2009

Best Companies 2009 - FORTUNE Magazine's Top 100 Employers to Work For

Principal is the only one listed in Iowa. I'm guessing next year there will be zero in the state.

IMO, surprised they're still on the list.

why would you be surprised? We actually moved up from 22 I believe. Yeah, we laid a few people off but who hasn't.

My company was on it for 8 straight years, now the wheels are coming off.

I'm sure that makes the people who got laid off that worked there for over 20 years feel a lot better.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

    Yes….moved up from 22 to 17.

Agreed, why would you expect it drop off? Almost every company is affected by this economy, so there's nothing I read about Principal that I don't see other places as well. In fact, it seems they are doing fine when you see what is happening to other financial services companies across the US and the globe.

I'm not surprised. The surveys were done over the summer before the layoffs and no raise information came out.

I'm really not. I get better benefits than most people I know. Everyone is laying people off. Hell, Microsoft is laying people off for the first time ever.

Actually if you consider other companies in their peer group, PFG laying off 300 of their 16,000 workers (1.875%) is much better than others.

PFG's stock movements are more a function of the whole market as opposed to the company specifically.... It's not going back up to $70... If you buy a bunch at $15 though, I could see it in the 30s and 40s again someday...

I like how Quicken Loans is at -41% job growth and still on the list. Apparently if you get to keep your job it has fricking sweet benefits.

Actually, they verified their results several times up until the end of the year because of the downturn and layoffs. Might be good to know the facts...

    Mens Warehouse? Random.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Verified with who? You mean they shared with them numerous internal communications as well as employee comments/feedback.

Keep in mind that I'm not saying it's not a great place to work just that results would be a lot different between this summer and now and PFG wouldn't be the only company.

As far as knowing the facts.....keep talking

BTW-If you see me Monday I'll be the guy wearing jeans.
