    Newspaper Help

My wife teaches high school US History. Since yesterday was a big day in US History, I told her that I would try to get as many Newspapers from around the country for her to use in future years in discussions. After a stop at Barnes and Noble and Borders all I have to show is New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the DMRag (yeah on that one).

My question is does anyone know where I can get more Newspapers in the Des Moines area? Do we have a newsstand anywhere in town? I'm looking for the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, LA Times, etc.. Thanks in advance!!

Would the Ames Tribune be among your desired sources?
    Just asking.

Iowa State Daily would be a good get also...would printing off the articles off their website be satisfactory or do you want the newspaper itself?

    Re: Newspaper Help

I have people that are getting the local papers, but I'm kind of stuck with a broader national scale. My intent is for her to be able to use them 15 to 20 years down the road while talking about Obama and yesterday. I have come to find out with the newspapers having on-line additions it is very difficult to find actual printed newspapers around here.

The Ames Tribune, ISU Daily, are all good, but I would like stuff from coast to coast as well. Thanks though.

Try the Des Moines Airport, if you live in the area.

Can't you usually buy USA Today at convenience stores? Check the yellow pages. There used to be a local number listed in Dex for the Wall Street Journal.

    Re: Newspaper Help

Seems like Dahl's and Hy Vee in the greater DSM area carry many larger papers.

    Re: Newspaper Help

Do you need actual papers, or would copies suffice? Larger libraries probably have several subscriptions from other cities. I can check the ISU library if it would help.

It seems like the Kum&Go at Mills Civic & I35 carries several papers, but I could be wrong.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ~ George Carlin

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life:
The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers

    Re: Newspaper Help

This is just a shot in the dark, but the DM airport newstand/bookstore might have some papers from midwest cities; KC, Chicago, St. Louis, Omaha, etc.

You could also try to find contact info on Google or some site, and send out letters to a lot of the major papers. If they know it's for a teacher for years to come, they might even spring for the postage.
