    QB Doak Raulston?

I see that we're apparently recruiting this La Tech commit, and I wonder if anyone knows anything about him?

Yes, it's been long discussed that we need a third quarterback on the roster next fall, and personally, I think it hurt to lose McHargue. But I'd like to know if people think that Raulston might be as good as McHargue? About the same size, but he looks a little skinny to me. And he's listed as a "pro-style" quarterback, at 6-1.

    Re: QB Doak Raulston?

He has really good touch from what I saw in his video. He really throws a nice deep ball. He seems more comfortable on the long ball than he is zinging in the short passes. I really think he would make a nice third QB project. I trust that Tom Herman knows what he wants in a QB and if Raulston fits that bill, which I would guess he closely does given the offer, than I trust Tom!

    Re: QB Doak Raulston?

Herman was recruiting him while at Rice so it must be someone he's big on. It does list him as pro-style, but with Herman recruiting him, he must be somewhat mobile to fit Herman's system.

    Re: QB Doak Raulston?

Well, I have to admit that I'm struggling between "I know we need a third quarterback", and "I don't want someone who will discover he's in over his head in the Big XII and transfer a year later".

I'd like someone who's prepared to compete with and push AA and Tiller, love Iowa State, and help make our Cyclones better. Is that too much to ask?

    But maybe that's just me.

Rivals doesn't have a 40 time listed but scout has him at 4.60 which, if accurate, is pretty mobile. He also ran for 840 yards as a senior (per rivals). They probably have his as a pro-style QB because of his advanced skills throwing the ball (noted by Cytaki). Many dual threat guys are run first, pass second guys.
Scout has him as 6'2 as well, instead of the rivals 6'1.

I think he looks like a good prospect.

    Re: QB Doak Raulston?

I don't think that's too much to ask at all. In fact, that's exactly what we need. Clearly we're not going to get a guy that's going to come in and play right away over AA and JT so this qb recruit needs to know his role, support the guys ahead of him and push them to be the best they can be. I'm in the boat that thinks we need another scholarship qb.

    Re: QB Doak Raulston?

I agree. His main limitation is probably his height and he has time to gain muscle mass. Seems like a smart kid who could pick up and maste the Tom Herman system well also.
Look at this guy below with similar measurables and the same amount of stars coming out of high school.

    Colt McCoy QB 6-1 180 lbs 4.72 (40)

He has turned out to be pretty good.
Doak seems to be faster as well and also has a tough guy first name.

McCoy also grew two inches, went to a tiny high school in the middle of nowhere, and was coached by his dad, IIRC. All Saints might be tiny, but it's also in Fort Worth, hardly the "middle of nowhere".

As far as gaining muscle mass, Raulston seems to have narrow shoulders (the only thing that makes me hesitant)--but again, maybe that's just me.

I am not saying he is the second coming, or he will be anywhere as good as Colt. (Did Colt really grow 2 inches? Wow!)
Just noticed some similarities and thought that it was interesting. Also shows that the right 3 star QB in the right system can do some pretty awsome stuff.

Hopefull he is just noticing a recent trend and that is all.
Who cares what they look like as long as they can play.

I don't care if the guy is orange as long as he can play.

He looks like a prototypical spread offense QB, I like it...

Strange that this should come up on MLK Day.
