    Mediacom Capital Classic

I just read today that we only sold 7,811 tickets for this. When we're selling fewer tickets for this than there are season tickets holders, I think it's time to scrap this game. I think it's fun, but honestly, Hilton is just as nice as WFA with the new additions (although I did enjoy the club seats) and I think it'd be more beneficial to schedule a home and home with a major conference team. Even a good Mo Valley team or something. I don't see the reason why we're taking games out of Hilton unless we're getting some good pub or whatever out of it.

And I've heard (and used) the argument that it's important to get publicity down in Des Moines to bring some of the copius Des Moines ISU graduates back into the fold. Clearly it isn't working. Keep the games in Hilton, at least to appease the crotchety season ticket holders like myself.

    Re: Mediacom Capital Classic

I liked the game in Des Moines. I live in Ankeny, so I would go either way, but I think it is hard to judge this years game as how succesful it will be or could be. Bradley was not the big name that some people wanted to watch, and some people knew we would struggle this year anyway. If, and I only say this as what might happen, not something I think will happen, but if they would get a Top 20 team every year to play in the MediaCom Capital Classic it would be a great crowd, and I think that would be the case whether the game was in Ames or Des Moines. If next year we played a game in Des Moines Vs. lets say Gonzaga, I would guess we would have a larger crowd than this years game vs. Bradley. Just my opinion, but good topic for conversation.........

Here is an interesting topic...Would an ISU vs. Gonzaga game in Wells Fargo Arena draw more than 14,000 to top a capacity crowd in Hilton?

    I would guess no.

Last year vs. Ohio State... They're a good school (clearly great this year, and obviously better than Bradley), but I don't think that was very well-attended, either, was it?

I don't know the official attendance, but I went to both games at WFA and by far, the OSU game was better. There was more anticipation and a much larger crowd. It was not full, but people couldn't move down to the lower level like they could at the Bradley game.

    Re: Mediacom Capital Classic

We still didn't have the attendance vs. OSU last year that we would have if it would have been in Hilton.

I love the concept of playing a game in DSM, yet when it hurts the attendance which in effect hurts the team (noise and $$) - we aught to evaluate it.

I'd be a big fan of getting rid of this game and play the in-state games at WF. Could easily have a 3-day round robin tournament between the 4 schools. I'd think WF could work out a deal between them allowing each school to earn some nice cash while playing in a foreign arena and gaining exposure.

Pollard is a fan of having one or two of the in-state games at WF - I'd say take it further and have all of them there. In addition - ISU and Iowa could play one another later in the year on a rotating home-away basis as they do now.

Decent crowd at OSU game last year, but playing in DSM cost us the game. ISU would've beat OSU at Hilton last year....

I would tend to agree with this. It took us far too long last year to warm up as a crowd in that environment. Therefore, it took the team a bit longer to get into it. It was a tough fought game, but they just didn't have enough to pull off the W.

ISUFan, I like the concept to a point-- there is something unique about Iowa coming into little 'ol Drake's house and getting beat. I'm just not a huge fan of playing at a neutral site for that kind of game. Save that for the tournament.

There is another problem with an instate round robin tourny in WF. UNI and Drake are in the same conference and play two games already against each other. That would make them play three times.

Thanks!!! Want to know what it is?? Several years ago my mom was going to auctions to find stuff for my college apartment. She came across two of these Cys. The bottles were originally whiskey bottles--complete with a cork and that red/white rectagle sticker they used to use to seal liquor. Pretty cool, huh?

No, one of their games could be at WF and the other on a home-away rotation basis.

I think we just need to try it a couple more years....maybe get a bigger team to come play (although OSU and bradley were no slouches)...if it doesnt pan out then, then scratch it

That would work for Drake. I beleive UNI would have a big problem with the neutral game being played in Drake's backyard.

    Re: Mediacom Capital Classic

I had the opinion that we should have an add-on cost (say $20) to your season ticket package that would get you a ticket to the WFA game. This should increase attendance.

    If that's not possible...

Why not just play an exhibition game in WFA? We still give DM a game but not one that "counts". Granted, sponsorship $$ would be lesser but at least we are still playing this game.
