    Digital Camcorder Question

I am a hs basketball coach and am looking for a digital camcorder that will be really easy to download games to computer so I can burn DVD's of our games. Picture quality isn't a huge deal as long as I can see #'s of the players. I want to try to find something like $150 or cheaper. I found a couple at Bestbuy/Walmart online, but really am ignorant on what would be important specs/features to have. I need to be able to record about 60 minutes worth to be on the safe side. Here are the links I found...any input would be helpful

    Walmart.com - Always Low Prices!

    Insignia® - 5.0MP High-Definition Digital Camcorder with 3" Swivel LCD Screen - NS-DCC5HB09

    Pure Digital - Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder - White/Silver - F260W

Kodak - Pocket Video Camera with 2.4" LCD Screen - Zi6

    Re: Digital Camcorder Question

Husband has Flip at work. Very easy to use and great quality video and audio.
We got daughter and son-in-law the Flip video MinoHD 60 min. for Christmas.
Both were purchased on Amazon-- the Mino HD is the latest highdef version. It's $209 on Amazon and the Flip video ultra (60 min.) is $129. Just search for flip video on Amazon Amazon.com: flip video

    Re: Digital Camcorder Question

There was a thread about digital camera a few weeks back. Maybe around Christmas time? Lots of reviews in there. I can't speak to any of the ones you've listed except the Flip.

I have the Mino at work, and our department has several. Crazy easy to use, darn near idiot proof. Even though Flip has a propritary video format, once it's transferred to your computer, anything will play it, making it easy to edit.

Upside - Super easy to use, tripod mount built in, excellent price/quality value. You'll be surprised at just how good the video quality is, even in the non-HD models. Acceptable audio for most general applications.
Downside - 60 minutes will be max recording time. You've got to decide if that's enough. If you're looking for super audio quality, the only mic is built in, so you're not going to pick up a lot at a distance. Zoom capability may not be enough for use at BB games. That's the one thing I'd wonder about and check out.

If you get serious about the Flip, compare specs. It might be worth it to spend another $30 and go for the Mino over the Ultra. And ask around. I wouldn't be suprised if several kids at your school have one. Borrow one and give it a test run.

    Good luck.

    Re: Digital Camcorder Question

I've heard good things about the flips, and I suspect they would work just fine for what you're looking to do.

Just understand that a 150 dollar camcorder is going to have some fairly serious compromises compared to a more expensive one.

Audio, zoom (optics in general), recording time etc.

My family has a JVC GZ-MG37U hard disk camcorder. We are certainly satisfied with it for what we use it for. Very light and easy to use. Good luck

A little out of his price range, though.
