Impressive Big XII Play and a shot at Kansas

I don't know about you guys, but I'm actually impressed with the way ISU has played so far in the Big XII.

Okay, so I know it's only been two games, but the way we stuck with Texas was very impressive. Also the win against Nebraska had it's ups and downs, but overall we played well and finished - which is what killed us against S.D. State and Drake.

If we can finish strong in our conference games this year I think we have a great shot at the N.I.T. 7-8 wins isn't as hard as it seems.

Also, who's going to the Kansas game? It would be nice to see ISU pull if off for the first time in awhile. I think we will have a great shot since we've been playing well and Kansas isn't spectacular this year.

Makes me miss the days when we were able to win 5 in a row against them.

I agree that we've been playing well lately. I know the NCAA is probably out of the picture, but I haven't given up yet. I say not making the NIT is a disappointment.

Re: Impressive Big XII Play and a shot at Kansas

Agreed. NCAA is probably pushing it - but hey, I'm not gonna say we can't do anything for a few more games.

What it comes down to is road games. I say we can win 5-6 home games, but another shutdown season on the road would really hurt us. All we really need is a couple, maybe 3 road wins. 9 conference wins can get us into the NCAA, and that doesn't seem to impossible.

    Let's analyze this:

    @Texas - L
    Nebraska - W
    ---------------
@Missouri - They destroyed Colo, but that's not saying much. They did lose to Nebraska on the road though. I say we can win if we play well enough. Nothing we're not capable of. (Win)

Kansas - Like I said, we could win this game. If we're ever going to win another KU game, it's this year at home. (Win)

@Colorado - No matter how bad we are we will never be worse than the Buffs. Easy road win. (Win)

Oklahoma - We will be lucky to come withing 10-15. Can't expect to win this. Although a Brackins - Griffin matchup would be interesting. (Loss)

@Kansas State - Tough road game here. If we play really well we can probably pull it out, but it's safer to say we won't win. (Loss)

Missouri - I say we win at home and on the road against the Tigers. Road game will be tougher - but the home game is deffidently something we can do. (Win)

Colorado - It'd be nice to see a 20 point victory, but even if it's closer we will still win. (Win)

@Oklahoma State - All road opponents are tough, and with ISU if it's a decent team on the road it's usually a loss. (Loss)

@Kansas - A win on the road against KU is asking for way too much. (Loss)

Kansas State - This is a team we can actually beat at home. They're not nearly as good as last year - and we actually came close in '08. (Win)

Baylor - The Bears are better than you would think. One of the few home games we will lose. (Loss)

@Texas A&M - This is where key road games come into play for ISU. A win here might set us up for a potential shot at the NCAA. Tough to say, but TXAM is pretty good this year. Good game, but a sour loss. (Loss)

@Nebraska - I bet we will be able to put them away. Pressure will be on here, but if we played like we did last game, we will be fine. (Win)

Texas Tech - T-Tech just isn't a good enough opponent to take us out at Hilton. A win gives us a nice winning record. (Win)
    ---------------------------------------------------

9-7. Impossible? You decide. There will be upsets for both us and our opponents, but I don't think this is unrealistic. 9-7 gives us a great shot at the NCAA and a sure appearance in the NIT. I'm just worried that our poor pre-conference play may be the decider.

I'm not sure 9-7 would get us in the NCAA tournament. In fact, I'd almost bet the farm that we would have to finish 10-6 in the Big 12. And I'd still wouldn't be certain that we would get in. We simply did not beat any good teams in non-conference play.

Re: Impressive Big XII Play and a shot at Kansas

Yeah, that'd depend on how other teams do in the Big 12. If too many teams get 10 wins then we're probably out. But hey, last year OU and Baylor won 9 games and found their way in. Of course I'm sure they had their fair share of quality wins.

We may need to duke out 10 for this to be possible. So basically we're gonna have to win all of the games we can.

I say (as fans) we aim for the NIT. Best to avoid disappointment. But we will see how it goes, hell we could win 4 games this year, we could win 13. Let's just let it play out.

N.I.T. would be an amazing achievement for this team (OK maybe not amazing, but good nonetheless). It would really ignite them for next season, IMO. They need some postseason experience too.

Yeah we definitely didn't beat anyone good in nonconference, the fact that the OP uses SDSU and Drake in his argument that we are playing better is telling....however, I think an NIT bid is attainable and would be a nice step in the right direction for our program.

Re: Impressive Big XII Play and a shot at Kansas

Yeah, I still think we can become a Top 25 team in a couple years.

    PG - Chris Colvin/Diante Garrett
    SG - Lucca Staiger
    PF - Craig Brackins
    SF - Marquis Gilstrap
    C - Justin Hamilton

And if we're lucky.....we will score a much better SF. But UNC and Duke pretty much have dibs on Harrison.

Re: Impressive Big XII Play and a shot at Kansas

    Cart ----> Horse

We have a 300+ SOS. We have 12 wins, none against top 100 teams. Huggy's first team at KSU went 10-6 in conference and had 23 wins and didn't make the tourney. We'd probably need 11.

Regardless making the NIT would be an achievement for this team considering what has happened so far. I also think people are vastly overrating beating a very weak NU team (that actually lost to Oregon State) and losing is still losing, especially considering we were trailing by double digits for most of the game against UT.

I'm hopeful for the NIT but even making that the expectation is getting a little crazy.

So I think we can all agree on 10-11 wins for big dance.

Hmm, makes things tougher. Well NIT is a lot more realistic.

I want to pencil the "at Colorado" game as a win, but history really doesn't help me on that one. Seems like a disappointment every year there.

I would love postseason play of any kind. I can't remember, does the NIT take 32 teams??

I think it will take 12 wins or a top 3 finish for ISU to get in.

12-4 in the Big 12? That's like 2nd place. We would be ranked by then lol
