What I want to see next season from our coordinators

Allot of people have talked about ISU needing to run the high octane spread offense to compete in the Big 12. Personally, I don't think this is the case. I am more concerned that we do something 'different'. Maybe we focus on running out of the spread more like West Virginia, maybe we run the triple option, or maybe we run out of the pro set. I guess my main point is that I don't think we will get very far by just copying what the other Big 12 schools are doing. We need to do something unique to compete.

This goes for the defensive side of the ball as well. Maybe we run the 4-2-5 or even play allot of dime coverage. Same thing though, we need to do something different to compete, as I don't think we will be successful trying to beat the other schools by copying them.

Do I know what those unique things would be? No. But, that's why I am a distribution manager rather than a football coach!

Re: What I want to see next season from our coordinators

    1) Getting plays in on time
    2) Recognizable Halftime adjustments
    3) Playing the best players, regardless of (a) age, (b) who they were recruited by, or (c) mythical doghouses.
    4) The ability to taylor our schemes to our players, and not continually try to force a square peg into a round hole (e.g. Jesse Smith as a Tampa 2 MLB).

(I've got NOTHING but love for Jesse Smith, but really...)

Have the coaches and players know down and distance. got tired of watching a pass thrown on 3 and 15 for 7 yards then the players looking over at the coaches for the next play.

I want to see us score touchdowns. I also want to watch a game on T.V. and see our defensive backs in the camera shot when the receivers are running down the field.

Not running a certain offense inside the 20 that you run outside of it

    Guarding a slot receiver!!!!

    Guarding a slot receiver!!!!

    Guarding a slow receiver!!

Ha, I know all of those fundamentals need to be improved, but I was talking on a higher level.

I don't know how unique we need to be, but being sound should be a major priority. It sure looks like we have a pretty good offensive mind in Herman. I hope that they continue to use the TE/HB a little. I like having a guy who can seal the edge, flex out wide or line up in the backfield as a lead blocker. That allows the offense to be versatile.

On D, I like the idea of running the 4-2-5 with a rover. I'd love to see Banks in that role as a headhunter

I really wouldn't mind a 4-2-5. I think that would honestly be a pretty decent idea, especially since a lot of our secondary guys are hard hitters.

I would like to see the 4-2-5 as well. If you look at our personel, I don't think there would be much of a drop off in run support from Josh Raven or Fred Garrin to Kennard Banks or Leonard Johnson.

Re: What I want to see next season from our coordinators

4-2-5 would be nice to see with our lack of LB quality and seemingl plenty of depth at CB. Of course itll also help us against the Offenses we will be playing most of the year.

I hope we get a D coordinator that isnt afraid to change up schemes in the middles of the series if something isnt working or just to give the opponent different looks. Also not telegraphing our blitz' and zone D.

I know it was just a suggestion, but i don't think any form of option offense would be the best for us. Arnaud and Tille can both run, but they also have solid arms. Plus the option haunted us in the past(Senneca vs. Florida State). I think we need something unique with blends of a pro style, spread, and maybe a little option here and there.
As far as the defense goes we need a good secondary coach. LJ is already good but has the potential to be great with good coahing. I would also like to see another solid D-tackle, a la Brent Curvey or Athuba Rubin.

Well frankly, we need a more solid grasp on those fundamentals before we can move on to some of the higher level stuff.

    Sad, but true.

I basically run the 4-2-5 on NCAA Football 09 it works the best since our LB are extremely slow. O and I also won the national championship so that is a good sign.

I agree, but I think we have a pretty good secondary coach.
