    Re: Question about TV

I don't have an answer, but is channel 5 covering less games than previous years?

In past years we've always had a handful of games not on air (maybe 4 or so). This year, all of them have been on tv, haven't they? I don't know why they aren't all on tv - it drives me nuts and I would think hurts the program from an exposure standpoint.

Yet another "benefit" of being in the Big XII???? I thought there was some sort of screwy rule about playing on a night where another conference team has the national spotlight on ESPN, and us not being able to televise our game. That just happened recently with Big Monday, I believe.

    Re: Question about TV

It's just the crappy preseason games that are on Mediacomm. The Big 12 games are carried by the usual Cyclone Television Network (or ESPN or the Big 12 )

Here's the link that shows which games are broadcast.

    Re: Question about TV

ISU & Mediacom teamed up to provide a lot of the games that otherwise wouldn't have been on tv. It's worked out pretty good so far but obviously those that don't have Mediacom feel left out. About the only reason I'm on Mediacom is because they have so many ISU games on, even though I have season tickets. I probably would have switched back to DTV a while ago if it wasn't for that and the fact I keep threatening Mediacom that I'm going to leave so they give me incredibly low prices:)

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

    Re: Question about TV

I suppose its working well if you like B-rated productions with bad color commentators (hallihan was an exception)

    Re: Question about TV

As usual some of us won't be seeing the game, those of you in State have your coverage. You might be surprised that many alum and contributors to ISU don't live in Iowa (that is by choice of course). We pay for ESPN Full court and still don't get all the games. And some of us even have Sirius radio for the non TV games. JP and I have gone back and forth via e mail about us supporters out of state and TV coverage, it seems the Big 12 package effects everything today concerning TV and media.........ISU gets short end of the s..t stick............

    Four levels of network "drafts"

Major networks (ESPN/ABC) get the first shot at picking games. Next up is the Big 12/ESPN+ Network. Anything left from there gets picked over by the Cyclone Network, whose contract says that they get to broadcast a max of 12 games.

Any remaining games after those selections would not even normally be televised at all, but ISU/Mediacom struck a deal to provide a type of "fourth-tier" broadcast, with some of those games even appearing on FullCourt.

Normally, the fewer games selected by the big boys or the Big 12, the fewer non-conference games will be shown.

    Re: Question about TV

I am 2 hours from Ames and we get it on our local cable company. Antennas won't pull channel 5 in here. We are just lucky I guess.

    Re: Question about TV

Living out of state prompted me to get the BUD (Big Ugly Dish) about 17 years ago. That plus Dish Network to get the ESPN games. Over the years, I've watched just about every game that has been televised. You just need C-band and KU band capability and start the transponder search about 15 minutes before game time. I know this isn't an option for just about everyone else.

This has really helped me follow the 'clones because the local paper (KC Star) only acknowledges KU, KSU and MU as being the Big 8 / Big 12. The internet helps alot, but wasn't an option years ago.

    Re: Question about TV

I've always wondered how those big dishes work.... is it legal bringing down signals for games?

    Re: Question about TV

Yes it is legal. There are lots of ways to scramble the feeds if they don't want their signals to be seen. The ISU games are analog and in-the-clear.

I even remember the Cyclone Network production guys sending greetings to fans across the US prior to air time.

Another advantage (to me, at least) is you don't see all the commercials. You still see the ones from the truck but not the local TV station's commercials. You often get to watch the crowd or teams during timeouts, almost like you are there in person.
