Assistant coach question and theory ...

First - how many more coaches are we after? Just 2 plus an S&C guy?

So my theory - we've already retained the services of Don Dunn to be new DC and he (and rest of staff) are at convention looking for last piece(s) of the puzzle. This would be DDs first DC position but he had been mentioned for the same position at Auburn so he's probably deemed qualified.

As for S&C guy - my guess is it is - or was - Myslinski but Myslinski is hesitant as he'd rather have an NFL gig. Rhoads probably gave him a timetable which probably coincides with the convention as well.

I think the full complement of coaches is PROBABLY already in place pending last minute details/contracts/duties which will be wrapped up at the convention.

So how long does it take to fill out the Cleveland Brown staff? S&C implications.

Dunn wouldn't be my first guess. Rhoads only worked with him one year at Auburn, and he has no ties to the midwest or the Big 12. He's 55 and he's never been a defensive coordinator. I'd rather bring in a guy like Bedford. Hopefully Rhoads has at least talked to Bedford.

Rhoads had previously worked with Dunn at Pacific and Dunn has said publicly that he would like to work with Rhoads again.

And what is hoding the announcement. Three weeks to signing and whoever says we do not need 25 more schollies just to hand out ought to relive the last three years. To keep 85 schollies in action, you need to do your thing every year. UNL usually gives out a grayshirt. Bring in people, work them, use them if possible. You do nopt sit back, fill 22, and say that is good enough...you complete it with projects.

Prepare to be disappointed. Not saying I agree or disagree with you, but more than likely we will not have a class of 25. The one thing that can be done is that over the next couple years we can sign a few additional JUCOs to fill in this class.

    1) You don't need the DC to recruit. As a mater of fact sometimes the coordinators recruit very little. PR obviously knows what kind of defense he will run and will find a DC with the same philosophy
    2) You fill the roster with quality instead of handing out schollies to kids that won't help out. Hence Mosby being told he might want to look elsewhere. Using schollies on gys that will never make a difference just might hurt in the future
    3) The DC is much more important then any recruits we pick up for this class so you don' t make the hire just to fill out the class. A class that will be thrown together and below average anyway

If you are not currently a coach with a NCAA program do you have to abide by the same recruiting rules as any other coach or are you allowed to contact prospects all you want? maybe that is the point in holding off
