Looking at new tv Sony KDL52V4100

Do any of you folks have one? If so do you like it or hate it.

I've always wanted a Sony TV and I am looking to upgrade my Vizio 42".

I've studied the 60hz vs 120hz and I don't see any reason for me to spend the extra money on 120hz.

I mostly watch baseball and basketball.

    Thanks Fellow Cyclones.

I've had a Sony Plasma, LCD, and rear projection. I liked them all. Good tvs. I like my current Pioneer better though.

Re: Looking at new tv Sony KDL52V4100

You won't go wrong with that TV. My only suggestion would be to reconsider getting 120hz if you watch a lot of sports. If I were you I would get the Sony KDL-40XBR7 or the 46" model. Only reason for saying that is I think you will not feel the need to upgrade as soon the next time if you go with an XBR model. One other recommendation is to look at Toshiba if you like Sony, in my experience they have been every bit as good and at a slightly lower cost. But like I said you wouldn't go wrong with you original selection either.

Also resarch the Samsung LN52A550. It's Samsung's best 60hz model.

My former in-laws have the Sony 42V4100. I'm not impressed with the picture but I would bet my left one that they don't have it calibrated the correctly. From what I've researched it's a fine TV.

I am in the process of tv shopping myself. The last Consumer's Report that I picked up stated that Samsung was the best value for the money...

That being said, I am a Sony guy and I think I am going to pony up for the XBR!

I got the Sony SXRD 2 years ago and basically told the wife don't make me choose between you and 2 things: the dogs and my TV. It is awsome and the sony is worth the money.

I have a 52" Sony W series and love it. Not sure what all the differences are between the W and V series. I did not think 120 Hz was worth the extra money, or more realistically knocking about 12" off the screen size for a 120 Hz tv of the same price. I've had this tv for just under a year now and it's been great.

I was looking at that as well but $100 shipping kills this deal. Costco has the same one for $1,000 (with $300 coupon) and it's new.

Get a Plasma. I bought a 42" Panasonic 1080 Plasma and I love it. And I am normally a Samsung guy.

For sports, you can notice a difference. Plasma works better with fast motion.

I got a 58" Panasonic for christmas what an amazing tv. Only the Pioneer Elite can beat this tv but u will pay double for it. Dont buy an LCD when u can get a Plasma its not even close.

LCDs are catching up and if you have ambient light in your room you may want to go with LCD. If you go Plasma Panasonic is the way to go. Good choice.

I just have old clunky tvs and haven't researched new-fangled flat screens because I'm broke...wife, baby, renovating house, humble salar....what were we talking about? Oh right. Someone once recently told me that the "V" in the sony models meant it was higher quality or they were the good ones or something. Again, haven't researched it myself, but may be something to think about if you care.

Re: Looking at new tv Sony KDL52V4100

I pulled the trigger on the TV. Wow. It is so much nicer than the Vizio. First of all 52" is a huge difference than my 42". I saw quite a bit of 'pixelation' with the Vizio and almost none with the Sony.

I have not tuned it yet, but even the out of the box calibration is pretty darn nice.

I set it up in the afternoon with lots of ambient light. I closed the curtains and turned off the lights and it adjusted to the new lighting. Very nice.

I looked at DLP and Plasma and I just could not get around the glare from the glass screen on the plasma. The DLP was ok, but I really need the extended viewing angles of the LCD.

All in all, I am pleased so far. It was quite nice watching the Giants lose and the Steelers win yesterday on this new TV.
