    Steamboat

Looking at making a trip to Steamboat, seems like a lot of people have been there, and I have a few questions.

Anyone ever stay at storm meadows? Lodging doesn't have to ski in/out but in the mountain village would be prefered.

Transportation from the airport. Do they have shuttles?

Ski school for 4 year old. Worth the price?

Are discount lift tickets available in steamboat?

Did you use an agent, the resort, or did you do it yourself to book your trip

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Steamboat

I haven't ever been there, but my dad, who used to be a big ski junkie visited Steamboat as much as he could back in the day. He absolutely loves the place.

What airport are you flying into? Denver? They do have ski shuttles. Try Alpine Taxi.

Ski school - has the 4 year-old ever been skiing? If not, then it's worth it.

    Book your own trip.

    Re: Steamboat

We never get the ski in/out whenever we go to Steamboat, but it's not a horrible walk to the gondola as long as you're reasonably close. Even when clunking around in ski boots. Ski school will definitely be worth it, unless your kids were born with skis on their feet and turn into an olympian as soon as they hit the slopes. And I wasn't aware of discount lift tickets while we were there...

    Re: Steamboat

I live in the Steamboat area, have a season pass, and had been skiing there regularly until just before Christmas.

I broke my collarbone skiing on the slopes of Steamboat December 21st. The emergency room misdiagnosed the degree of my injury disclosing that the injury would heal with time. I saw an orthopedic surgeon January 7th and his diagnosis was that since the break was at the corner of the collarbone that chances of it healing were nil. I went directly into surgery and I'm in the recovery mode as I write this.

There is free parking at the Meadows (on Mt. Warner near highway 40) and shuttles that trasnsport you near the gondola. In addition many of the lodges provide shuttle service.

During the high season I'm not aware that discount tickets are offered.

    Re: Steamboat

Went to Steamboat in January 07 with the ISU Ski & Snowboard Club. Great trip. We drove out separate from the club (cheaper to carpool for $200 total for five people than pay $100/person for a bus.....) Anyway, can't remember where we stayed, wasn't ski in/out though. Not a bad walk (5-10 minutes tops) and there were shuttles running to most of the different lodging options. Great mountain, underrated, less crowded because it's out there on its own in comparison to the Summit County and Vail resorts.

That stinks. Hope everything mends well now.

Anyone ever stay at the Inn at Steamboat. Seems reasonable and within walking distance. That's really my only goal with the lodging.

    Re: Steamboat

I lived in Colorado for a few years and Steamboat was my favorite place to ski. As someone said earlier, it's usually not as busy as Vail, Keystone or Breckenridge. It seemed like everytime I was there they got about 2 feet of fresh snow. It is a nice town but there is not as much to do at night as some of the other resorts. Vail and Breckenridge were my two favorite town's to hangout at, but you will have the kids with you anyway, so you probably wouldn't be going to bars or anything at night anyway.

The one thing we always did in Steamboat was visit their natural hotsprings. After a long day of skiing, we would go pick up some beers and go lounge in the hotsprings. I can't remember the name of the hotsprings, but if you ask someone they will tell you how to get there. It's pretty neat to sit out there at night. (It does get kind of rowdy sometimes if you are there too late because you can bring your own beer)
